"Some of this research" concludes that a youngster's perception of the growth risk associated with choosing a particular career is affected by it's lucrative factor. A high lucrative factor associated with a particular career will reduce a youngster's perception of the growth risk associated with choosing that particular career. So to weaken the conclusion, we have to show that a youngster's perception of the growth risk associated with choosing a particular career does not depend on it's lucrative factor.
Option A clearly mentions that.
So Answer is Option A

Sajjad1994 , bm2201 could you please give some clarifications to 4th question?

PrachiMaloo
Can anyone explain Questions 3 and 4?

Hi Naila02, PrachiMaloo,

3. The passage is primarily concerned with

(A) challenging the implications of previous research into why youngsters try new careers.
(B) suggesting new employment strategies for attracting youngsters to new careers.
(C) reconciling two different views about the effect of lucrativeness on youngsters' willingness to try new careers.
(D) describing a new approach to researching why youngsters try new careers.
(E) discussing certain findings regarding why youngsters try new careers.

Explanation: Author begins the passage with: "It is well known that youngsters try new career paths, but it is still not clear what motivates them to do so..." and then goes on to discuss the studies that have been done to understand the same. Throughout the passage we can see that the author mentions multiple findings regarding why youngsters try new careers. Thus E is the correct answer. Other options can also easily eliminated as we cannot infer author challenging/reconciling, suggesting/describing new strategies.

4. Which of the following, if true, would most tend to weaken the conclusions drawn from 'some of this research' (Highlighted)?

(A) In a subsequent study, youngsters who were asked to evaluate new careers with relatively less lucrativeness had the same perception of the career's growth risk as did youngsters who were told about the same careers having more lucrativeness.
(B) In a subsequent study, the quality of the advertising for the careers that youngsters perceived as having a lower growth risk was relatively high, while the quality of the advertising for the careers that youngsters perceived as having a higher growth risk was relatively poor.
(C) In a subsequent study, the careers that youngsters perceived as having a lower growth risk were less lucrative than the very lucrative careers in the previous research.
(D) None of the youngsters involved in this research had ever before taken up careers provide by the employers involved in the research.
(E) Researchers found that the higher the source credibility for a career, the more youngsters were willing to try it.

Explanation: Consider the lines - "Some of this research has concluded that a relatively high lucrative factor will reduce a youngster's perception of the growth risk associated with choosing a particular career, while other studies have reported that lucrativeness has little or no effect on perceived career growth risk."

The conclusion drawn from the highlighted sentence is that a high lucrative factor could reduce a youngster's perception of the growth risk associated with choosing a particular career. Now we are asked to weaken this conclusion. So, we need to look for an option that presents an argument that a relatively high lucrative factor might not reduce a youngster's perception of the growth risk associated with choosing a particular career.

Option A, present a similar argument that youngsters who were asked to evaluate new careers with relatively less lucrativeness had the same perception of the career's growth risk as did youngsters who were told about the same careers having more lucrativeness.

Thus, A is the correct answer.

Hope This Helps.
Thanks.

question no -2 explanation

Explanation

2. The 'past research' mentioned in (Highlighted text) suggests which of the following about perceived growth risk?

Difficulty Level: 600

Explanation

The passage discusses the relationship between different factors—lucrativeness of a career, the way it is advertised, and source credibility—and how they influence youngsters' perceptions of the growth risk associated with choosing a new career. The 'past research' mentioned in the second paragraph suggests that there is an interplay between the lucrativeness of a career and the credibility of the employer when it comes to influencing youngsters' judgments of growth risk.

The passage explains that source credibility affects how youngsters perceive the risk of pursuing a new career advertised by that employer. However, the relationship between source credibility and perceived growth risk is more complex, and it may also impact how youngsters judge the lucrativeness of the career. This implies that both the career's lucrativeness and the employer's credibility play a role in shaping youngsters' perceptions of growth risk.

Option (A) is not directly suggested by the passage. While it mentions that lucrativeness may affect perceptions of growth risk, it doesn't explicitly state that youngsters would credit advertised claims about the career more if it's lucrative.

Option (B) is not explicitly mentioned in the passage. The passage discusses the effect of source credibility on growth risk perception, but it doesn't directly address familiarity with a particular employer.

Option (D) is not supported by the passage. There is no mention of youngsters' beliefs being influenced by whether they have taken up careers with a particular employer before.

Option (E) is not entirely accurate. The passage suggests that both the lucrativeness of a career and the credibility of the employer are factors that influence youngsters' assessment of growth risk. It doesn't state that one has less impact than the other, but rather that they interact in a complex way.
