meaning :- 2 facts are provided about JC
1. JC banked on his skills and understanding
2. JC integrated his movie scenes with special effects.

Error Analysis :- the modifiers are not correctly placed.
Option A :- explained
Option B :- same as A
Option C :- Correct
Option D :- modifier 'meticulously integrated' should modify movie scenes and not JC
Option E :- Change of meaning, both the facts are given equal importance.

IMO :- C

B :In his movie scenes, meticulously integrating them with his state of the art special effects sequences, James Cameron

the main problem with B is that two modifiers are lying side by side when either can make sense with the subject of the clause "james cameron" .for instance : "in his movies , james ....." or "meticulously integrating them, james cameron .." .OG has shown such side by side placement of modifiers wrong unless they are placed such that only only is making sense with the subject or the other way to solve this is to place subject in the middle of the two modifiers

'Understanding' in the context is a gerund,an 'ing' form of noun. It is parallel with skills, another noun. There is no need to parallel it with the verb 'banked'

This question is a trap for people who are unaware of the fact that a subject cannot lie inside a prepositional phrase.

"them" used in three of the five options can't refer to the "movie scenes" since "movie scenes" lies inside a prepositional phrase.

This leaves us with just 2 options and one of them has modifier error (option D). This leaves us with the answer - C

I personally feel that the answer is wrong. Is it logical in any way to say that JC banked on xyz in his movie scenes. This is an illogical meaning because it says that "in the movie scenes" JC banked on...

James Cameron, in his movie scenes, meticulously integrating them with his state of the art special effect sequences, banked on his exceptional cinematography skills and understanding of innovative new technologies.

(A) James Cameron, in his movie scenes, meticulously integrating them with his state of the art special effects sequences,
These are independent events they don't have to be seperated through commas which distorts the meaning and makes it akward

(B) In his movie scenes, meticulously integrating them with his state of the art special effects sequences, James Cameron
integrating isn't the right usage since it's something Cameron has already completed not happening hence out

(C) In his movie scenes, which he meticulously integrated with his state of the art special effects sequences, James Cameron
The meaning is right and in the end Cameron is placed completing the sentence with the right meaning

(D) Meticulously integrated with his state of the art special effects sequences, James Cameron, in his movie scenes
This gives us the meaning as though James Cameron was being integrated hence out

(E) James Cameron, in his movie scenes, meticulously integrated them with his state of the art special effect sequences and
The dependent clauses are seperated with commas and Cameron should be placed at the end to get the perfect meaning hence out
Therefore IMO C

Dear sir/mam,

Hi Priyanshu.

Identify what *jobs* each chunk of the sentence in B is 'doing' in the sentence. Each word of chunk of words in a sentence can be thought of as playing one of three roles: Clause (subject-verb), Conjunction, or Modifier (description).

(See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIsU_JI7Z6w)

Here's sentence B:

In his movie scenes, meticulously integrating them with his state of the art special effects sequences, James Cameron banked on his exceptional cinematography skills and understanding of innovative new technologies.

What job is each chunk doing? "In his movie scenes" is a modifier. It's describing 'where' James Cameron relies on his skills and understanding. What is 'meticulously integrating them...special effect sequences?' It's also description. It seems to be describing the way in which James Cameron relies on his skills and understanding. (often '--ing' modifiers separated by a comma can be thought of 'linking to' the verb of the clause they modify). The pronoun 'them' looks like it must refer to 'his movies scenes.'

So we basically have "In his movie scenes, meticulously integrating [his movie scenes] with his state of the art special effect sequences, James Cameron banked on...skills and understanding."

So in his scenes, he meticulously integrated his scenes, as he banked on his skills and understanding...?

That doesn't make sense... How did he meticulously integrate his scenes in his scenes?

It's a weird sort of recursion/redundancy. The sentence sorts like this:

[In his movie scenes],] [(meticulously integrating them with his state of the art special effects sequences), James Cameron banked on his exceptional cinematography skills and understanding of innovative new technologies].

Consider the sentence:

"In the apartment, living in it for his entire childhood, he went through the biggest stages of his development."

Similar issue.

Now look at the right answer and think about how it might 'organize' based on the 'role' of the word-chunks?

In his movie scenes, which he meticulously integrated with his state of the art special effects sequences, James Cameron banked on his exceptional cinematography skills and understanding of innovative new technologies.

In this sentence "in his movie scenes" has the same role (where Cameron banked on skills and understanding). But 'which he meticulously integrated' is now describing the *movie scenes*, not the main clause of the sentence. It's a 'sub modifier' in a larger modifying chunk.

[In his movie scenes, (which he meticulously integrated with his state of the art special effects sequences)], [James Cameron banked on his exceptional cinematography skills and understanding of innovative new technologies. ]

This exercise of coloring and clumping can really help you develop a strong sense of structure and meaning.
