J = current age of Janet
C = current age of Carol

$$J +25 = C$$

$$(J+6)*2 = C + 6$$ ---> $$C = 2*J + 6$$ , insert in first equation

$$J + 25 = 2*J + 6$$

$$J = 19$$

$$J - 5 = 14$$

Janet ................................... Carol

x .......................................... x+25 (Current Age)

x+6 ...................................... x+31 (After 6 yrs)

Given that $$\frac{1}{2} (x+31) = x+6$$

x = 19 = Current age of Janet

5 yrs ago Janet's age = 19-5 = 14
