Statement 1: The shorter route is 10 miles less than the longer route.
But we don't know how long teh longer route is to calculate the shorter route hence
NOT SUFFICIENTStatement 2: (2) When he drives both ways, from his home to his office and back by the shorter route, he drives a total of 54 miles.
i.e. 2*Shorter route = 54
Shorter route = 27 miles
