Hi, Official answer is correct. By using general rule (between ....... and..........), you can eliminate A, C & D. Between B and E, you can eliminate E easily(from.....to....). Also E has meaning issue. "echolocation" and "to echolocate" both are different in meaning. If you use "echolocation" in Option B in place of "to echolocate", that sounds not good

Thanks! Appreciate the response, but I admit it’s still not fully clear to me why "...enables them to echolocate, an ability to..." is more correct than "...enables echolocation, an/the ability to..." (or correct at all)
I’ve raised this on the forum in the hopes of a wider reach!
