Now that the application process has changed to 1 deadline for each round, I am really interested to know whether the interviews will be only on invitation or will there be an open interview period. Keeping in mind Kellogg's stance on the importance of interviews, I feel they might go for the latter.

Jum looks like you still request an interview slot and they interview all applicants. On my phone but if you look under application components there is more info.

hmm they have mentioned this under 'what is required' - 'Interview request (all interview requests are final)'

but, haven't updated their interview section on the website. That still talks about part 1 and part 2.

jumsumtak, the way we've interpreted the change is that it'll be exactly the same process, just condensed in terms of timing. When you submit your app, you'll request the interview, and it will be scheduled with you, or waived, based on the same processes they've always used. It'll just happen in a tighter timeframe than before.

Our interpretation of the change in dates was based on a motivation to simplify the app and remove barriers from candidates applying - that's what's been behind the changes at many other schools this season. Kellogg's two-part app thing was highly confusing and nonstandard; doing things the way your peers do it has some value in what's already a complicated undertaking. The applicant-initiated interview is a key element of their community and it works at this school; unlikely that it will go away.

silly question coming up:
The 3rd question has 2 parts with individual word limits. Do we need to answer them separately or it needs to be one long reply ?

Not a silly question at all jumsumtak. This should be one essay that flows from the first part to the next; they have broken it down like that to make sure you answer both questions within your essay, and they're giving guidance that each is of equal weight. Don't use subheadings etc., just write it out as an integrated piece, with an intro, a couple paragraphs, and a conclusion.

EDITED 9/9/13: We were wrong on this! Sorry to mislead people - we answered this when the questions were released, going off past experience on how other schools have done multipart questions. Once the Kellogg app was released in late August, we realized the mistake but forgot to come back here and update this post.

For Kellogg, Essay 3 is actually two separate pieces. You will upload or copy/paste them in as individual 250-word responses. It's not a single essay as we had stated in this response.

Sorry for the confusion!!!

Guys, are the recommendation questions made available at Kellogg? I am not able to find them. The online application isn't open until August. Do we have to wait till then to know the recommender questions?

I am throwing my hat for MMM in R1.

You should be able to find past recommendation questions online and just use them as there shouldn't be much of a year-to-year change in that area. Did anyone else see Poet & Quants post today about Kellogg now requiring a video essay too? I have seen nothing on their website to confirm this but I guess it's going to be part of the application now. You have to answer a question through a Skype-like video screen but I'm not sure when you sign up for this or how it works.

I did. It also says it is for '2014 application' - not sure if that means this year.

phew! more changes.

Yeah I assume 2014 means "Fall 2014," which would be now. But not sure. Maybe someone else has some insight?

Yeah seems so. I'm just curious when you actually do the video? When filling out the application or part of the essays before-hand?

Hey brentl23. Thanks. It makes sense to start from the older prompts as a reference. But do you know when Kellogg traditionally makes the recommender questions available online?

And ofcourse, big news on the video essay front. John has confirmed in the comments section at P&Q that Kellog is indeed making this change for this year's application.
