Man vs Wild

Hate to break it to you but....

It's completely fake.

Oh I know, but it's still a fun watch and you can learn a thing or two. Who cares if it's real? :)

GREAT stuff kwam, I loved those pieces!

The best part is, my best friend throughout college is an expert pianist (also EE major), and I used to watch him practice Chopin's Etudes all the time, at those speeds, and making no mistakes. "Winter Wind" and "Revolutionary" were my two favorites, along with #10 and "Black Keys". :)

We definitely need to hang out more! :)

One of my favorite pieces... so brilliant... played by my favorite violinists:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThVxIrow6-c

Crazy Crazy Piece - Bazzini:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR8ABKpwm7w

I could not stop "laughing" when I saw this... the violin is a toy in his hands. It just left me speechless.

Paganini's famous theme that Rachmaninoff used for his "Theme on a Variation". The violin version of Chopin's Etudes, the 24th Caprice pretty much includes the all of the hardest techniques of the violin.
Korean violinist version (rougher but more powerful):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulfHA5x0LH4
Hillary Hahn version (softer and more refined):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh3D_ujMjtM
And Yo-yo ma version, I don't know how this piece is possible on the cello, but he did it:

GOOSE BUMPS!

You like the "virtuosos" too! :-D

Here some more pieces I like:

Bedřich Smetana - Ma Vlast (Die Moldau):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0lPLOeBzyA
(Last year I saw the Prague Symphony Orchestra playing this piece at the Smetana Hall, the same place of this video)

Sergei Wassiljewitsch Rachmaninoff Concert No3 part 1 - Yefim Bronfman

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7y8zLnQ ... re=related

Some more popular pieces:
Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart Flute Concerto 1 1st Movement:

Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart Piano Concerto 20 - Uchida conducts and plays:

Yes I do. :)

Very nice, one of my favorite orchestral pieces! Beautiful!

Brilliant, but I like Kissin's version of Rach 2 even more (one of my favorite pieces of all time, especially the 2nd movement)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ud_wGMXRnQ

The intro sends me chills.

And yeah, my friend played this piece and Rach 3 with the Stanford Symphony and a local orchestra, respectively. I got to hear Rach 2 at arms length for about 5 years... I'm so spoiled! :P

Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart Piano Concerto 20 - Uchida conducts and plays:

Another amazing piece. Mozart's only minor key piano concerto, and in my mind, the best. I first learned of it when my friend showed me his *10* year old concerto competition where he won and played with an orchestra... amazing!

Yeah, I move in and out of it... I need to sort out my 200+ CDs and start going through them again...

My wife is classically trained (piano and singing)!!! She was part of the London philharmonic, so i used to be able to go to the Royal Albert Hall (https://www.pollstaronline.com/CIC2004/i ... terior.jpg) for free and watch the shows.

Currently, I've got into my cooking.
Made a beef wellington last night. (https://www.manic.com.sg/blog/images/wellington.jpg)

Hahah I'm enjoying how this thread got derailed with classical music.

Actually, one of the most colorful moments in my life was getting to spend 15 minutes playing on Vladimir Horowitz's concert grand piano. Needless to say, simply touching the keys was a humbling experience. The coolest thing about the piano was that he travelled around the world with it, and the keys were custom-tuned to accomodate his unusual straight-finger play style, requiring less pressure to push down.

Anyway, I mention it because the piano is still on tour around the US if any of you classical music afficionados are in the area and want to see it: https://www.steinway.com/noteworthy/tours.shtml

I don't know how it will work in other cities, but I was allowed to call ahead and book 15 minutes of play time. They even recorded my session on it.

=====

Aside from that, and getting back to the original topic, the things that stimulate me usually involve engineering. Everything from modern architecture to the air-combat capabilities of the F-22 raptop jet fighter. Awesome, AWESOME, stuff.

Travelling is another big passion of mine, which I'm sure I share with many others. But lately I've also become really keen on one day building my own library/study. It's so fun thinking about all the cool things I'd put in there :-D (it's not just going to be dusty old books ya know!)

Traveling: love to experience different places and cultures. Current list includes: France, England, Ireland, Italy, Peru, Canada and Jamaica.

Triathlons: I was a competitive swimmer growing up and through college. I picked up cycling after I graduated and started doing triathlons 4 years ago (have done several sprint races, a handful of Olympic distance races, 3 half-Ironmans and a full Ironman).

Reading: huge fan of Tom Clancy and John Grisham. Also enjoy reading biographies and other non-fiction books (world history, company history...although I realize I'll be reading a lot about company history over the next two years).

TV: college football, Steeler football, World Cup soccer, The Office, Seinfeld
