OFFICIAL EXPLANATION
The structure of this sentence, "Like [does something]" sets up a comparison between an animal and its own habitat. This is a strange way to talk about these two things, but we'll make it work. Since the sentence describes the habitat by naming the bird, we don't need to name the bird again, narrowing our options to Choices (B) and (C).
The biggest difference between our remaining options is that one has a singular subject, "the bird itself," and the other has a plural subject, "the birds themselves." The introductory phrase mentioned the bird, so we go back to it and see that it mentions a singular bird with "the pileated woodpecker," which means our subject has to be singular in order to match.
Choice (B) is the best answer.

- 'Like' Must represent logical comparison and convey intended meaning. It must be followed by a Noun/pronoun
- We must place Like at the correct place to present intended meaning
- Although not a strong error point, We must avoid the use of passive construction if there's a clear precise active construction in the answer choices
- Don't mistake gerund for verb in the sentence. a gerund is a verb form which functions as a noun ending with the suffix 'ing' .
