An
MGMAT SC question :
Eyewitnesses describe the missing passenger as a lawyer in his late forties .
I think it should be like a lawyer in his later forties the guys was not really (probably) a lawyer in his forties .
But , the official answer is AS .
Did I miss anything ?
Please help !

Hi,
Normally "As" has various functions.
as is followed by a clause:
it denotes comparison, reason and an simultaneous action(depends on the context)
As + Clause : Above is the best example for comparison.
As + Clause : John reduced the brightness of the screen as he wanted to save the battery power- Reason
As + Clause : As i was travelling in train, i met my childhood friend.
As followed by Noun:
it denotes role or function.
As + Noun : As a manager, john helped his subordinates.
Now when we come to "Like" vs "As".
the example you have provided is correct. It should be "As".
Both "Like" & "As" is used for comparison.
But for comparison, the "Like" must be followed by a noun, and "As" must be followed by a clause.
The example sentence you provided we have a clause, so it should be "As" not "Like".
Hope it helps.
