So I took the free Economist Tutor CAT, and in the Verbal section I got an RC passage which was accompanied by a single question. And then the next question was from an earlier passage.

I found that to be a bit odd. Has this ever been experienced by anyone on the real GMAT test?

No, this does not happen on the real GMAT. That sounds like their CAT algorithm had some wires crossed.

Thank you. :)

Another thing that I found fishy was that I did not see my first RC passage until Question #27.

Is this scenario plausible on the actual GMAT?

No never.
Naturally you will find your RC in the first 10-12 questions in real gmat.
You can find these kind of scenarios in non official gmat preparations only.
I have seen the non official gmats where I get continuous all sc, all cr and all rc questions consecutively without getting shuffled.
These are not good and do not represent official test experience.

Hi ZenYogi,

The scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC (the 2 free CATs, and each of the 2 that come with Exam Pack 1 and Exam Pack 2), so it would be useful to know how you performed on one of those CATs. Beyond the Official CATs, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are close enough to the real thing that they should provide you with realistic score results (assuming that you take each CAT in a realistic and test-like fashion).

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
