If both machines are working together then they are producing 600 widgets per hour.

Therefore$$\frac{600}{1}=\frac{1000}{x}$$ x=5/3= 1 hour and 40 min

Rate of Machine A = $$\frac{350}{60}$$ widgets per minute

Rate of Machine B = $$\frac{250}{60}$$ widgets per minute

Combined rate = 10 widgets per minute

Time required for 1000 widgets $$= \frac{1000}{10} = 100$$ minutes

350w per hour + 250w per hour = 600w per hour
600w per hour = 100w per 10 minutes
1000w - 600w = 400w

100w = 10m
400w = 40m

1h + 40m = 1 hour, 40 minutes.

E. 1 hour and 40 minutes

Kudos for a correct solution.

A=350/60 per minute
=70/12

B=250/60 per minute
=50/12

A & B rate of both machine
70/12+50/12
=120/12
=10

So, A & B both per minute rate 10 units
so, 1000/10
=100 minutes
So, 1 hours 40 minutes

Total work needed to be done = 1,000 widgets
A can produce = 350 widgets in 1 hr
B can produce = 250 widgets in 1 hr

Together, how long to produce 1,000 widgets ? Shortcut calculation 1000/(250+350) = 10/6 Hrs
