As many … as is the idiom.
A. escaped into interplanetary space in the last three months than was the case --- as many… than - wrong.
B. escaped into interplanetary space in the last three months as it did-- it has no referent.
C. in the last three months escaped into interplanetary space as was the case --- the best
D. in the last three months had escaped into interplanetary space as -- have had escaped is an absurd use of the verb. .
E. in the last three months escaped into interplanetary space than --- as many… than- wrong
C is the answer

You can't compare the volume of particles in the last 3 months to "the case," nor does it make sense to compare a span of time to "any time in the past" without specifying a duration. I'd definitely ignore this one.
