You mentioned you were accepted to UNC which is the highest ranked school with arguably the best reputation of that group of schools. However, you didn’t list UNC as a possible destination. Was that a typo or are you just not interested in their program?

Hey MBAVet25, would you say that UNC is that much higher in prestige than USC? just wondering

No they’re close in rankings per the 2019 US News rankings, which is widely considered the most reputable MBA ranking publication in the US. However, that was the first year they broke the top 20 barrier as far as I know. Historically, they had hovered between 20-30.

It will be interesting to see if they maintain their top 20 status in the newest US News ranking which comes out next week, 17 March. UNC has consistently been inside the top 20 fwiw.

If tier 2 consulting is the main goal, Marshall and Mendoza can probably get you there. UNC would maybe get you a slight edge on MBB recruiting but I don’t think it would be significant. They are not a target for MBB either.

I would check each schools most recent employment report and see if their is a noticeable difference in consulting results. Another thing to note about USC is that job placement is heavily west coast post-MBA.

Hey Kujo123 ,

Congratulations for the great admits. Another LA lover here! :)

Considering your options, I would vote for UNC or USC. Please note that UNC is also a STEM degree from this year. Also, can you try negotiating with UNC using your other offers? I can see that you mentioned you are interested in Consulting or tech. UNC is a good number of people who go in these industries. And if you are saying tech, you can always go to LA/California post your MBA. I am not sure about Simon or Notre Dame but I would like to have stonecold to chime in!

abhimahna thank you so much for your suggestion! I considered negotiating with UNC but i wondered if USC and Mendoza would be much of a leverage to incentivize UNC to offer me more scholarship, given the fact that UNC historically ranks higher than both these programs. What do you think? ?

You can always try your chances. There is no harm. Show them the passion for the school but at the same time how important finances are for you! Try reaching out to Alums from both schools and get their perspective too. Good luck! :)
