Hey GMAT Club,

I was recently going through the application process at MBB and, when building my profile, tried to take inspiration from other profiles (i.e. what kind of organizations they are in, what schools they go to, etc.). And this was incredibly painful as you have to go manually through each profile individually.

So I decided to instead use my free time and build a website that does this job automatically. I sourced over 5,000 public LinkedIn profiles of MBB consultants in Germany (a big MBB market and yet a little bit smaller than the US, so I thought it's a good start) and then extracted/consolidated all information.

Ranging from the awards listed, organization memberships, and school and GMAT scores, I tried to build together an interesting statistics report that aims to answer questions like:

    Is my profile good enough for MBB?
    How can I get inspiration to improve my profile to get an interview invite?
    How is the hiring situation right now?
    How many people are employed on each level, and how much time does it take to get promoted?
    What kind of exit opportunities? (working on that right now but the pool of profiles is obviously much bigger than analysing only the current, active members)

I plan to extend the data points and industries based on actual user feedback going forward, so please do not hesitate to let me know! US MBB, and US Investment Banking are the ones I target next.

Hi. Sorry for missing your post from earlier! Thanks so much for posting it!
HHPreparation - this is really cool and amazing!!!!

Is it possible to do this for the US? this would be really interesting data to see, esp if we can see specific years (e.g. how many people started at MBB in Germany/Country in 2021, then 2022, etc). Is that too complicated?

The big question is always how many firms hire from which MBA program/etc.

I have been trying to do analytics of LinkedIn for a long time but have struggled and wasn’t quite smart enough to use an API 😇

The key challenges I run into were people just saying Harvard or Wharton but not specifying if this was an MBA or a masters or a college degree. This made data collection more problematic and complicated because you have to analyze it and not just collect it….

PS. Did a bit of analysis with HNB and also had a challenge not being able to distinguish MBA from PhD from undergrad…

That's an issue as well! The biggest problem that I face is the collection of LinkedIn Urls to analyse actually :). Because of all the restrictions you have (max. 1000 search results, max 3degree etc.).
