MIM is for students with a year or less work experience. The MBA is for professionals who have at least 3 years.

Hi, I got into hec mim this year with 2 years of work ex hut after that when I talked to few peeps I took my decision to wait for two more year to go for mba then go for mim this year as work ex of greater than 1 years will not have an advabtage going for mim. So I would suggest you to go for mim next year or else wait if you don’t get into any college for mba. I researched lot about it and these are my findings.

I'm 23 years old with 4 month work ex and i am very confused about whether i should wait for 3 years and go for mba or go for mim at present

Hey adi0990
Most of us face a similar kind of problem. I agree with you it is very difficult to make a choice. I personally also had to make the same decision a few days ago. Just made a list of all the pro's and con's of going for an MBA & MIM. It will help you since then you will know what you exactly want to do. Also I do not know what background you come from. But if you come from a business and commerce background then I'll say it pretty much makes sense to go for an MBA ( at least I am going to do that ) rather than a MIM, if you are looking monetarily.

Yeah it’s the best for mim but I would be getting an entry level job after 3years(including gap year) after mim and will get into a manager level job after mba(4years from now). So 6 years of my undergrad I would have to option either an entry level job or a manager level job. So by this I came to the decision to opt for mba after two more years. As of now as well I got two promotion in my current role in mastercard india so mim will only demote my career after work ex. That’s why it’s best to go for mim with less than a year of work ex to make the full use of it.
Hit kudos on both replies if this was helpful. Also you can reach out to me in case you want some suggestions for mim.

Hi adi0990,

Every applicant struggles with the dilemma of MiM or MBA later. Ofcourse, when you are investing in an advanced degree, it is very natural (and recommended) to weigh in all the alternatives.

Before I compare the degrees, let me tell you that both MFin and MBA are “worth it” - You cannot go wrong with either degree provided you make a pick after thoroughly analyzing your career goals.
You can say that while an MBA grad views a business problem from a strategic level, a specialized master's person might view it from an operational perspective.

The right degree for you will depend upon 3 factors:

At which stage you want to enter the job market
How much are you willing to invest

Here’s a quick analysis of each of these factors:

1. At which stage you want to enter the job market

If you want to enter the job market at an entry/analyst level position within a couple of years of graduation, then MFin is the best fit.
On the other hand, if you are willing to wait 4-5 years to build your work ex, MBA is the way to go.
This is a personal decision that depends upon your long term goals and where you see yourself in the next 5-10 years.

2. How much are you willing to invest

MBA, as you must know, is a comparatively costlier degree- The tuition fees can range anywhere between $150,000 to $170,000 (for the 2 year program)depending upon the country and college.
MFin tuition fees typically range between $53,000 to $65,000 and are comparatively shorter in duration ( can be completed in 1 to 1.5 years)

Again a personal decision on how much are you willing to invest and how you plan to finance the degree.

I would advise you to think these points through to personalize your decision.
Again, I want to reiterate that you can’t go wrong with either degree if it is in sync with your career goals, so go ahead do some brainstorming :)
