It's true. It is just about the parallel check of "exercise" phrases.

Official Explanation :

Choices A and B incorrectly juxtapose heart patients'exercise and athletes who are exercising, not patients' exercise and athletes' exercise, a more logical pairing.

Choice C, which clarifies the comparison, is best.

Choice D and E, like choice A and B, imply a comparison between athletes who are exercising and the exercise of the heart patients.

Wohooo I opted C for the same reasons, I thought ans must be not this much simple hence checked everything twice still was getting C for the same reason :-D

This problem tests on parallelism.

"heart patients' exercise" and "athletes exercising" are not parallel. The former refers to exercises and the latter refers to humans "athletes". A, B, D, E all have similar problems.

C has the correct parallelism: exercise of both heart patients and athletes. Here, "heart patients" and "athletes" are parallel.

1) I suspect how C is the right option. It conveys a different meaning.

1) A is now done by B (In the passage)
2) B is now done by A (In the option C)

are both different meanings. How is the option C correct then?

Can anyone please help,
Shouldn't it be "exercises" and not "exercise" in the correct choice.

Can anyone tell why exercising and exercise are not parallel because both are acting as noun.

Hello Dip050701,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, "exercising" could only serve as a gerund ("verb+ing" acting as a noun) in this context, if the preceding noun "athletes" was in its possessive form.

We hope this helps.
All the best!
