I'm going with the Why MBA because I believe it's the core essay that will influence my other essays. How you look at the other essays would be influenced by why you want to do an MBA. To me, the Why MBA is the keystone essay.

I had chicken biriyani - now that I have literally eaten my essay analogy, I am morally compelled to write an essay

Yeah. Makes sense. I am starting with Columbia's "opportunity" essay instead .. and plan to do "passion in life" next. Then I'll work on "Why MBA". I just feel that I need some practice with thinking and writing before I tackle "Why MBA". And I feel that I know enough about why I want to do an MBA.

Anyway, I am sure that the columbia application will need a lot of iteration (This being my first application).

I wish I could get some good biriyani...

I'm off to have... the mixed rice.. i don't know what you call it - the one with rice on a banana leaf, with all the various mixed vegetables and curries. With side dishes of meat. that's good stuff. For simplicity, they call it banana leaf rice here... is there another term for it?

I'm stuck at Dean Glenn Hubbard's speech. I'm planning to mail Columbia's ad coms some bearer bonds in lieu of my Essay 2...

I've no idea where to start or where to go.. talk about having a mental block. All I've got drafted out are some feel good sentences like

"However, more importantly, people have to be well prepared to adapt to the changing business environment; they have to be able to draw on their skills and knowledge to maximize opportunity. "

"Each class is an opportunity to learn and equip myself with the necessary tools for not only survival but also progression."

I'm doomed.

My take is to do the "Why MBA" question first, since that's what you need to help your recommenders write their recs. It's also a great way to help you research which schools you really want to apply to, since if you're writing a "Why MBA" essay about doing I Banking in NYC, then UCLA is probably not the best school to apply to.

I usually write better if I have an outline, and I find an outline to be very easy to brainstorm and put down. Try starting there, then edit the outline to only contain the items you want to discuss, and write a draft based on that. Different schools have different lengths for the essay and different specific questions, so you can edit the outline accordingly.

Yeah, there are a lot of Banana Leafs here int he Bay Area.

The one in Milpitas rocks. My stomach is grumbling. I would kill for a fried banana with jackfruit icecream.

I'm all about the Hainanese Chicken Rice or the Laksa. Raffles Cafe in Fremont used to make the best ones, but I heard they closed. now I make my own chicken rise. Penang Village or something like that in Santa Clara makes amazing Cha-Kuey-Tiao and Laksa...
