LOL, no, my best friend is from Singapore, and I've learned quite a bit of Singapore culture and Singlish from him ;)

Where is your part of the world adc?

I'm also part Taiwanese, so Char Koay Teow is very similar to some dishes there (Hokkien very similar to Taiwanese)

I'm in Malaysia... so if you're ever at Singapore, could hop out for a good meal or a few drinks ;) though.... i'm not a very cultured drinker :P just mix my whiskey with coke

I've been told that the taiwanese hokkien is very different and very much classier. Is that true? :)

Can we add drink making skills in the app essay??

I love the way this thread is headed - from biriyani to flatulence to comic strips to chinese/taiwanese/malay food.
Keep it coming.

And I make a mean Mojito. Maybe I can include my recipe with my application!

Man I am thirsty of one now.

I have a mint plant just for mojitos (for friends, I make mine "virgin" =P).

Yeah, I personally believe Taiwanese hokkien to be a bit less harsh to the ear, but that could be because I understand that dialect better. My Singaporean friend and I are always comparing how we say certain phrases in hokkien and Taiwanese.

will definitely hit you up if I'm in the area again. are you in KL?

Personally I drink because I love the taste of coke mixed with whiskey. Am not too good with cocktails and stuff like that... though I would drink it all the same...

Yup. I'm in KL. Would be great to catch up, very few people related to MBAs/applications come my way. Where are you located now?

Unfortunately I only speak Cantonese. I've always wanted to learn Hokkien though, it's a pretty cool dialect! :)

If you visit Chicago than you have to try the Mojitos at Cafe Bolero.

I am off to cafe bolero next week. I will be in chicago for "training". More like training to see how much I can drink.

Where is this fine place located - I am sure I will look it up in citysearch, but just in case I am too lazy to do that...please let me know

It's on Western. If you are not driving, then the closest blue line stations is Western and Milwaukee. It's not downtown and it is not the best neighborhood, but believe me, you won't be disappointed with their Mojitos and Chicken Milanesa (if you eat chicken, that is.)

I'm stuck at Dean Glenn Hubbard's speech. I'm planning to mail Columbia's ad coms some bearer bonds in lieu of my Essay 2...

I've no idea where to start or where to go.. talk about having a mental block. All I've got drafted out are some feel good sentences like

"However, more importantly, people have to be well prepared to adapt to the changing business environment; they have to be able to draw on their skills and knowledge to maximize opportunity. "

"Each class is an opportunity to learn and equip myself with the necessary tools for not only survival but also progression."

I'm doomed.

You are not alone in the boat bro!

I am facing the same problem with that essay. I have read that speech 3 times but to no use. Not able to get out with even a single line. I am scared now :(

Read that speech. Stop. Drink a scotch on the rocks. Stop. Refill. Drink. Stop. Go and watch a Chuck Norris/Govinda/ Mithun movie.

Ideas will start flowing through and your writers block will fall apart,

Actually inspiration came to me as I read it the 5th time...

I strongly suggest reading some non-MBA books related to education, problem solving, management decision etc... that might help..

of course, the disclaimer is ... maybe my approach is all screwy :P
