I'm sorry a Q52?
I am pretty sure you cannot score higher than a Q51.
It is true. Actually the Quant and Verbal range from 0 to 60. This information is provided by GMAC: https://www.mba.com/us/the-gmat-exam/gmat-exam-scoring/your-score-report/understand-your-gmat-score-report.aspx

Hey guys,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I've checked out the e-gmat trial for verbal as suggested. Just wondering if it's worth dropping the $499 for the full live sessions and math courses. Or should I just get the complete verbal package? (is the RC and CR guide just as good as the SC?)

Err I may of remembered incorrectly... it might of been 51? But I am pretty sure it was 52.

Hi frostorm,

To answer your last question about when to apply, if you are happy with your career at the moment and would not mind starting business school a year later, it may not be a bad call to give yourself the necessary time to achieve your best possible GMAT score and to put together the best possible applications. However, you could also take one more crack at the GMAT and then make a final decision.

With that said, since your quant is rock solid (great job, by the way), you will want to focus on improving your verbal for your retake. To improve your verbal score, you want to strive for linear and targeted learning and follow that up with focused practice. In other words, you want to master one topic before you move to the next. Have you been able to study in this way? But - to help ensure you don’t lose any of you quant skills, be sure to mix in some quant study.

When studying verbal focus on learning one section at a time: reading comprehension, sentence correction, or critical reasoning. For example, when learning about critical reasoning, you want to be able to learn about all aspects of critical reasoning: strengthen and weaken the conclusion, resolve the paradox, find the conclusion, must be true, etc. Follow up your learning with focused critical reasoning practice, so you can determine your specific weaknesses within that topic. You should follow a similar routine for sentence correction and reading comprehension.

In regard to Sentence Correction questions, since you are selecting answers based on “what sounds correct,” you must instead develop mastery of grammar rules (parallelism, subject/verb agreement, etc.) and accepted English usage to master that topic. To best master those rules you may consider learning one major sentence correction category at a time, and then practicing many questions testing you only on that topic. The results of that practice will help determine how well you have mastered a particular rule.

In addition to your dedicated study, notice grammar and usage in your everyday life. Be aware of the things you habitually read, in terms of sentence structure, how phrases are worded, and whether pronouns are easy to understand. Make sure you use proper grammar in your everyday writing as well. Have you put parallel ideas into parallel constructions? Do all of your pronouns refer appropriately to their antecedents? The more you reinforce your study with related activity outside of your study, the greater the likelihood you will master the topics, and have fun doing so!

Also, to help improve your reading comprehension, I recommend reading publications such as the Economist, the New Yorker,Scientific American, or the Smithsonian so you can get used to reading and analyzing long, sophisticated passages that are well written.

In addition, regarding the fatigue you experienced during the verbal section, you may have been lacking the stamina necessary to focus for the entire test. You can build this focus by studying for longer periods of time and by taking practice tests under realistic conditions.

Lastly, after you feel like you have improved your verbal, resume taking practice exams. Unless you have already exhausted them, take practice exams from MBA.com.
