My gmat prep experience
To start with I was doing self prep and as a result not motivated. As a result I was just not motivated and kept putting it off. While I was doing self prep I was listening to Thursday's with Ron, and read the book cr bible. I had subscribed to gmat club question of the day which I used to work out
I put off my preparation for an year, at times read some gmat experiences and fell motivated again. Now I decided to get the veritas prep on demand course to give me focus and regularity.
I loved the course especially quant part and finished all the lectures.
At the end of the lectures I wrote the veritas prep tests and most of the tests I was scoring in 750 range. But I thought I need to revise the concepts do some more tests before I sit for actual exam. Again I got busy lost touch with prep for 2 months after which I worked on Manhattan tests which was a disaster. I did
gmat club tests for Maths practise and then I worked on og13. I wasn't doing good because of lack of practise, my timing was bad and I needed revision. I went over all my notes to revise
Day before my gmat exam I scored 720 on gmat prep.
Now came the d day, I was nervous and screwed up the awa. Moving on to quant my time management was bad , I had spent incredible lot of time in few questions because of which I had to rush towards the end, I missed to answer couple of questions. But I decided not to carry this anxiety to my verbal. I was careful managing the time and had time to get to every question. Now when I click for score it's a - 700, v40 and q47
Things to learn from my experience
1) don't have gaps, have continuity in preparation, especially for quant if you are out of practise you will lose the sharpness and will fail to work out under timed conditions
2) don't cram too many materials- materials from good prep company,
gmat club tests, veritas prep tests , Manhattan tests and official guide are more than enough.
3) practise will help improve timing, I practised too little. I realized the time when I was doing the veritas prep and was regular in my prep I was sharp than after a long gap when I restarted.
4) I made my own notes from all the materials I read. I came up with strategy to solve math and verbal and went over the theory again and again. I overdid This giving more time to theory than practise
5)one good thing is my documented steps to approach a quant n cr problem gave a direction to my thought process and how I approached the problem
Nevertheless I am not retaking. Thanks for all the help I got from this community. I used to refer a lot to the discussions on a question especially sentence correction in which I wanted to know how the question was solved. I found some of the posts from egmat interesting and did some of the free concepts from their site.
