I am interested in getting Queens, Canada/ Rotman Toronto. Are Leeds and Smeal Penn state good schools?

Hi kuchu,

You can continue to use the various resources that you've assembled, but remember that the more realistic the material and 'interface', the more you can build the very skills that you'll use on Test Day.

When it comes to the Schools that you choose to send a score report to, that is really up to you. Do the Schools offer programs that 'match up' with your career/MBA 'goals'?

Hi kuchu,

A 650 is just about the 80th percentile overall, so that would put you 'in range' of most Schools. The question that you ask is way too vague to be answered in this post though (you'd have to provide far more information and you'd have to talk to an Admissions Expert who knows that program really well to be sure). There IS a Forum of Admissions Experts here, if you're interested in getting a more pointed series of suggestions:

Hi Rk91,

Using your 2 CAT scores as a basis for comparison, you have to improve 200+ points to get to 700. That type of score improvement takes time (likely more time than you've planned for). I'd like to know a bit more about your studies so far and your overall plans:

1) How long have you been studying?
2) What resources have you been using?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
4) How many hours can you spend studying during a typical week?

I have been studying for the past 1.5 months with certain distractions because of my work related traveling. I can study 3hrs on a weekday and I work 6 days a week.

I have been using official gmat guide verbal and quant and Princeton review for practice. I have recently enrolled myself for 6 CATs from Manhattan prep.
I am not planning to apply for a school until next year ( I want to complete at least 2years of work ex) , however I aiming at early entry program of ISB - they have rounds of application - one in October and the other in January: I am planning for the January cycle.

thanks Rich!! :)

Rk91: I too scored a 490 in my first mock. ( in Feb). So, i studied for about 3 months to reach a 600 level.
Depending on your ability, you may even achieve a mid 600s in lesser time.

All the best :)

Hi Rk91,

While you can take your GMAT in August as planned, the reality is that you probably will not be able to raise your score to 700+ by that time.

Since you have plenty of time before you plan to apply, you can proceed as you like with your studies. To hit your goals though, you're likely going to need 3 months (or more) of consistent study time and you'll likely benefit from a structured GMAT Course of some type.

Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

Hi kuchu,

I don't think that there's a 'perfect' answer to that question. Some Experts advise scoring at (or above) your goal score at least twice before taking the Official GMAT, but I don't completely agree with that advice. Some Test Takers see a 'spike' in their scores on Test Day (knowing that they're facing the 'real thing' brings out the best in their performances), while others get so upset by the reality of Test Day that they falter (and their scores drop).

You should be looking to work hard for the entirety of the Test, making good decisions, minimizing mistakes and being efficient with everything that you do (even if it's efficiency in 'dumping' questions). If you can put together that type of performance, then a 650+ score should be a given.

Hi Rich,

I just scored a 630 :/

I had only 12 incorrect in quants and still got a Q45.

How is that possible?

q1-10 questions= 2 incorrect. But , I did wrong in a 4 questions sequence. Could that be a reason?

Hi kuchu,

First off, you should NOT be taking 2 CATs in the same day. After each CAT, you should put in the necessary effort to review the FULL CAT, identify any areas that need work, practice and review those areas, etc..... then take another CAT (about a week later).

As it stands, either of those scores COULD have been a 650+, but you made a few silly/little mistakes on each Test. If you can 'fix' those errors, then there's no reason to delay your Test Date.

thanks rich.

I will give my next practise test after 7 days now. But, can you tell me why I dint score a 48 on quants? Was it because og the consecutive mistakes that i did??

Also, I feel like Manhattan quants is tougher than the GMATPREP. Some of my friends who have given the actual GMAT has said they found the GMAT Quants much easier than the Manhattan Quants, whereas Verbal was at par with the Manhattan tests.
