Hi Everyone,

Im facing a issue which is STUCK at a score.
Please HELP!!!

I have given three official mock test from gmat and my score are:
1st Attempt
Total:- 555
Quant Score:- 77
Verbal Score:- 80
DI Score:- 75
Overall Percentile:- 48th
2nd Attempt
Total:- 485
Quant Score:- 76
Verbal Score:- 72
DI Score:- 74
Overall Percentile:- 21st
3rd Attempt
Total:- 525
Quant Score:- 79
Verbal Score:- 75
DI Score:- 74
Overall Percentile:- 34th

( GMAT Focus on GMAC )

I thought that I would be able to get a big score before any attempts as I knew, I have the potential to score 690 or 710.
And I had time in between each practice attempts. Same time Im also working on my essays as well but I dont think that would affect me.
I know that my not good in verbal so how to i improve it (English is not my native language).

I find it difficult to understand the wording of the problems many time and that happens not only in verbal but in DI, Quant questions tooo.

I have booked my GMAT Official Exam on 1st Sept 2026. Im have also started with my application to HAAS and Yale but I want a better score to convince the application team that Im better analytically then my score. And in round 2 Im planning to apply to few of the M7's.

Today I gave the 4th Attempt on the official practice test which got repeated question from test attempt 3, which was odd. I was able to answer those question with correct answer this time. DI section had the most repeated questions so my score is very high in that section (which is obviously not the ideal condition).
4th Attempt
Total:- 625
Quant Score:- 82
Verbal Score:- 77
DI Score:- 84
Overall Percentile:- 79th
Im not counting this attempt as it was not the ideal condition. So please dont use this to evaluate anything.

The jump you need probably isn't really a "verbal" problem, it sounds more like a reading-speed-under-pressure problem, and that shows up in DI and quant too since Focus loves burying the actual math in a paragraph of context now. When I was prepping, my accuracy moved more from timed reading of dense non-fiction (FT or Economist pieces, actually annotating the argument as I read) than from grinding another verbal set in isolation. It forces you to process meaning fast instead of translating word by word, which sounds a lot like what's happening to you across sections, not just Verbal.

I'd also be careful with that 625 attempt. If questions repeated from a previous mock, I'd treat that score as informational at best, not a real data point, since you can't fully trust the percentile behind it. With about six weeks to Sept 1, I'd rather see you nail comprehension speed on official verbal and DI review sets than chase another mock number. You've got real time left, use it on the actual bottleneck instead of the symptom.

Your frustration is understandable. You've put in real attempts, and the number keeps moving without climbing. On top of that, processing question wording in a language that isn't your first adds a layer most native speakers never face.

Look at the shape of your scored attempts: 555, then 485, then 525. Scores that swing up and down rather than climb steadily usually mean the content isn't consistent yet. When a topic is truly mastered, performance stabilizes, because it stops depending on which questions happen to appear. So anchor on your average, which sits in the low 500s, and treat the swings as gaps to close.

And here's the most useful line in your post: the wording trouble isn't really a Verbal problem. You said yourself it shows up in Quant and DI too. That points to comprehension underneath all three sections, which is actually good news, because it's one clear thing to build rather than three separate weaknesses. The fix isn't "study Verbal more." It's building your reading and comprehension of test English deliberately, as its own skill, alongside the content.

On the tests: your instinct to throw out the 4th attempt was right. But you've now used four official practice tests, and the questions repeated because the official pool is finite (GMAC offers only six). Practice tests measure; they don't teach. I'd stop taking full tests and protect the ones you have left for later.

The approach that moves scores is topic by topic. Learn the concepts and techniques for one topic thoroughly, then practice only that topic, untimed at first, until accuracy is consistently high before moving on. For every miss, work out exactly why: a concept gap, a careless error, a trap, or a question whose wording you misread. Add that last category on purpose, since for you it may be the most common. Then redo the question from scratch. For Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning, read for structure: main point, why each paragraph exists, the author's position.

Now the hard part. Your target is sensible for your schools; the upper-600s to low-700s is strong for Berkeley Haas and Yale, and 705 and up is already strong for M7. The problem is the timeline. Averaging in the low 500s with the test booked September 1st, about six weeks out, while writing essays, closing a 170-to-190-point gap that fast isn't realistic. If your Round 1 timing allows, give yourself more prep time and choose a later date, even if that means a later round. If the deadlines are firm, apply with your strongest honest attempt and plan a retake, since many programs take your best score. What I'd avoid is sitting the exam underprepared and hoping the number jumps.

For now: stop taking full tests, pick up a structured topic-by-topic plan, and build content and comprehension one topic at a time, reviewing every miss. Get the foundation consistent, and the score will climb instead of bounce. How to Improve Your GMAT Focus Score
