Need Help Understanding My Quant Score

Question

Hello everyone,
I am trying to understand my latest GMAT Focus Quant result, and am quite confused by the scoring.
In my second attempt (this week), I got 3 quant questions wrong, and my score is Q81. Order of attempt was Q->DI->V in both the attempts.
What confuses me even more is that:

In my first attempt, I got 6 quant questions wrong, and score was Q81.
In the second attempt, many of the questions felt relatively easy throughout the section. I completed quant sections with 10 mins to review & edit. I edited one question (Question No: 6: incorrect to correct)

I would really appreciate any insights on this, if anyone has faced the same situation, were you able to find any reasoning behind this?

Do you remember if the second attempt felt noticeably easier than the first across all three sections?

Quant was easier than my first attempt. DI and Verbal felt the same in both the attempts.

My best guess is that Q15 that you missed was an easy question. Thereafter, notice the string of easy questions you got (based on the time you took to solve them). Perhaps Q6 was a relatively easy question too which brought your overall test level down. When you later corrected it, it did bump up your score but the subsequent questions of easier level cannot be changed and the award you got for them cannot be increased. Careless mistakes are severely penalized.

All I can say is don't think of yourself as an outlier in this regard. When it coms to GMAT quant, I've seen of cases of people scoring 85 with 5-6 mistakes and also of people scoring 76-78 with 2-3 mistakes. You'll find such examples on this very forum. While you'll get explanations talking about difficulty level and all that, I'm not sure how convincing I find them. The bottomline is there's not much you can do. You just need to grin and bear it. And hope for slightly better luck the next time. Targeting zero mistakes will certainly help.
