Hi guys,
I really need your advise in my pretty unique situation.

I took the GMAT test on December, 8, 2014 and received unofficial score as following:
IR: 8.
Total: 610 (Q48, V27).

Put behind depression, I think that this score is very strange to me since it has some problems.
1, I blindly guested 50% of questions on IR part(will explain detail later), but I got maximum score. I know this is possible but its chance is very very small. Right?
2, I feel that I have done very good with RC and CR although I am not that sure with SC. In fact I have faced about 3 Fill in the Blank questions on CR part even until the very end of the exam. Hence, the verbal score seems unusually low.

These reasons force me to doubt the accuracy of this unofficial score.

To put more information, let’s me present my detail story. I have taken 4 GMAT tests totally.
I did the first one on July, 2012 and got serious disruption when doing this exam. The test center was moving to another place on that day, so there were workers making a lot of noise and moving stuffs in the test room. At worst, they even climbed to my table to take out the air condition when I was doing Verbal part. Frustrated, I scored 640 (Q49,V28).
Anyhow, I complained this to GMAC and they offer me a free retake. I retook the test 2 months later and got terrible score: 570(Q49, V17). I gave up for MBA dream with this score and also because I don’t clearly see what benefit I got from MBA at that time.

However, in this August, there were some events that pulled me back to MBA path so I decided to give me another chance for GMAT.
At 1st and 2nd test, I studied books: MGMAT RC, SC, CR, GMATClub Math but none of MGMAT Math Books. I practiced on OG12, Verbal Review 1.
At 3rd test, I decided to study MGMAT SC, MGMAT Math Books, CR Bible and practiced on OG13 and Verbal Review 2.
On free MGMAT test, I only scored 640 when retook it. But on 2 GMATPrep tests, I got 730, 740(Yes, I see repeated questions from two years ago)
I came to the 3rd test in October and got another terrible score 610. Too sad, I cancelled this score.

After 1 week, I recovered. To continue enhancing my Verbal, this time I studied and practiced with E-GMAT SC, RC while kept reviewing other notes. I focused more on Time Management and also bought Exam pack 1 from GMAC with 2 addition tests. I got 700(Q50, V35) on test 1 in Exam pack 1. I cannot finish test 2 of this exam pack because of other people mistake.
Anyway, felt confidence, I made appointment on December, 8, 2014 and got bad score as said above.
So my point is that after three tests with a lot preparation, I still cannot get better score than the first one which I did with serious disruption. Plus two reasons presented in the beginning, do you think that I have strong reasons to doubt the accuracy of my score?
I am not very stubborn and can accept the fact that my ability is limited but I cannot accept the unfair. Hence, I sent an email to GMATCandidateServicesAPAC at pearson dot com to demand the review for my last score. Yesterday, they responded and said that they were investing my situation and will answer as soon as possible. I demanded a specific deadline and now in the waiting state.

Do you guys think that anything more I can do?
In case they responded that my score is actually correct, should I accept it or continue demand more hard evidence?
If my score is truly correct, I probably will give up on MBA since my best is not good enough.
Thank you guys.

You are wasting your time and effort by doubting your score - more so now when they have got back to you and told you that everything is in order. Verbal scores in actual test are often lower than verbal scores in mocks nowadays. Here is a post that discusses some reasons for the same: https://www.gmatclub.com/forum/veritas-prep-resource-links-no-longer-available-399979.html#/2013/08 ... bal-score/

But this doesn't mean that you do not have the ability to score higher. It just means that your efforts were misdirected. I haven't met a single student who I thought did not have the ability to do better. What score you settle with is all about how much time and effort you are willing to invest. With focus and hard work, anyone can score 700+ because the concepts tested in GMAT are very simple. Still, most people don't only because they are not willing to put in the effort required and are not ambitious enough.

Here is a video that might help you with SC. Go through all 4 parts available through the PLAYLIST link at the top left corner of the video. https://www.gmatclub.com/forum/veritas-prep-resource-links-no-longer-available-399979.html#/free-gmat-lesson/
You will see a fresh perspective which might help.

Thank for your advises.
Actually, I suspected that the score was based on my 3rd test(which I cancelled) data instead of 4th's so I asked them questions like those:
- How many Multi Source Reasoning questions in my Integrated Reasoning part?
- How many Bold Face question in my Verbal part?
- How many Fill in the blank question did I got in Verbal part?
The customer service just said that they cannot answer those questions. I am not sure whether they really did the investigation or just answered complaints as a robot.
Scoring system of GMAT likes black box and there is no transparency.
I think even when there is a mistake the company will never admit it because it affects the company's reputation and no matter what the test taker said, people will believe that mistakes belong to those test takers. (wow, the company has very strong position.)
Nothing I can do with this system now, so I just have to move on to other direction.
Though learning GMAT is very useful in many way.
Thank you guys again for reading. :)

You might benefit from looking at the Enhance Score Reporting and see if it sheds anymore light. They have just introduced this feature. See details here: enhanced-gmat-score-reports-coming-feb-190168.html#p1457558

You need to understand that IR section has got some experimental questions. The guessed ones could be the experimental ones. There has been no big deviation from unofficial scores to official scores. And more over 610 is not a bad score. Admissions Class profile of class 2016 Harvard MBA program has GMAT score range of 510-790 with median GMAT score of 730. If your deadlines are far and you have the time to prepare and give again and if you have the confidence of scoring high in verbal, then you must go for it again. Sometimes it matters most on how you sell yourself in the essays and in the interview rather than a great GMAT score.

Let us know if you would have any other specific question and we would be happy to guide.

Hi sontungdt7,

When a Test Taker sees a significant score drop between practice CATs and the Official GMAT, one of the likely factors will either be:

1) Something that the Test Taker did during the study process did NOT match up with the reality of Test Day.
2) There was a significant factor (or factors) that affected the Test Taker on Test Day that threw "off" his/her performance.

There are lots of details that I'm curious about, but I'm going to start with the big things:

1) When you took your CATs, did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR section) every time?
2) What was your FIRST score on each of your practice CATs? Ignore ALL of the retests/retakes? They're ALL "inflated", so you cannot count on them as being accurate.
3) What time of day did you take your CATs? What time of day was your Official GAMT?
4) How long did it take you to travel to the Testing Center from your home?

Thankfully, Business Schools don't care if you take the GMAT more the once. Also, since the GMAT is a predictable, standardized Test, you CAN train to CRUSH it. However, if you're looking to make a big improvement, then you're likely going to have to learn some new tactics, change the way that you "see" (and respond) to GMAT questions and likely invest in some new GMAT resources.

You can check the new Enhanced Reports -- though they can only confirm any suspicion you may have had. For example, if you know you did pretty poorly in RC and the reports confirm that -- then you can have better conviction that how you felt reflected the scoring.

Clearly, you are not reaching your full potential on the actual exam. Besides reaching your target score in practice, take into account the extreme positivity tips we talk about here in this blog post: https://www.gmatpill.com/about/studying- ... trategies/

Dear GMAT Community,

I faced the same problem as sontungdt7. Two days ago I retook the GMAT, my first score was 710(Q50 V36). On practice CATs (GmatPrep and Kaplan), when I was preparing for the second time I scored solid 40+ on verbal, I solved all the OG questions with 90% accuracy. On the second actual exam I felt like I did extremely well, however, ended up with a terrible surprise in a verbal part, Total 680 (Q50, V32) and IR8.

I did not cancel my score because I am sure that there was an error. So my question is: was there any case when unofficial score was different from the official one?

I asked the same question to the GMAT Services Team, and waiting for their answer. In case there is no chance that my score would be increased, is there any possibility to cancel my score? I took GMAT two days ago.

Hope you will help me with this issue! Kind regards)))

Hi serik92,

The process by which the GMAT is administered (and the scores reviewed) is remarkably standardized and fairly free of errors. I've never heard of any Test Taker's Official overall score varying by more than 10 points from the Unofficial score (and I've never heard of anyone seeing a major increase or decrease in Scaled scores). This is all meant to say that you received the score that you earned.

Serik92,

The only opportunity you get to cancel the score is at the test centre. You cannot do it at a later date. GMAC may cancel the score at its own discretion in case it finds any irregularities but you do not have the option of cancelling the score 2 days later because of 'unsatisfactory performance'. On the flip side, if you cancel your score immediately after the test, you do have the option available to reinstate it within 60 days.

It is highly unlikely that the official score will be different from the unofficial score.
An actual verbal score much less than the average practice test score is actually not unheard of. Here is a post explaining why this might happen: https://www.gmatclub.com/forum/veritas-prep-resource-links-no-longer-available-399979.html#/2013/08 ... bal-score/
