From statement (1), it can be determined only that T traveled more slowly and thus took more time to make the trip than S. Therefore, the answer must be B, C, or E. From statement (2), it can be determined that S traveled fewer miles per gallon and thus used more gasoline to travel the same distance than T .
I don't understand the solution, because when a car travels faster, it burns more fuel and has less fuel economy - super confusing. Hie there

All we know is average speed of Car S and Car T.
Can we calculate anything about gasoline usage of BOTH Cars or can find the difference between gasoline usage of both cars.

Notice the first few words:
"For the entire distance"
It implies for the whole 50 miles which is the distance travelled by both car S and T.
Next is
Car S travelled 20 miles per gallon
So what does this mean
It means
Car S has travelled total of 50 miles
And for every 20 miles it consumed 1 gallon of gasoline
So total gasoline used = 50/20 = 2.5 gallon
Similarly,
Car T travelled 25 miles per gallon
So total gasoline used by car T is
50/25 = 2 gallons
Basically,
