Background- I'm currently 28 years old and have been working in the energy sector for 6 years. I graduated with a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Degree from a top 10-15 non-ivy with a 3.51 GPA. My GMAT score is a 750. My job is highly technical and I am looking to pursue an MBA, with the goal of changing career path. I applied R2 at Kellogg, Sloan, and Fuqua back in 2017 (matriculate in 2018) and basically got dinged at all schools. I got super depressed and decided not to apply anywhere in 2018, and now Im looking to kick off my MBA process again. I'm trying to correct my mistakes I thought I made when I applied 2 years ago by focusing on improving my essays (hiring a consultant), getting my recommendations in order, and improving my application overall. Believe my reasoning to change career paths from super technical in a very niche industry to more of the business/commercial side (looking to pursue consultant gig after MBA) is a sound reason. I'm also looking to develop myself as a leader and gain a better sense of the technical/business connection- I love working in teams, but find myself having difficulty rallying people together to pursue an outcome. Is this a valid reason to pursue an MBA? Also, I plan to target schools such as McCombs, UVA, Sloan, and Columbia. Is this a decent list or are there other schools besides HBS/GSB/Wharton that I have a decent shot at?
