Hi Everyone,
Manhattan GRE has recently developed a new section of our site that explains all of the differences between the current GRE and the new GRE. The new GRE will be given starting on August 1, 2011, and the current GRE will no longer be given once the new exam is available. This means that the last day to take the current exam is on July 31, 2011. If you would like any information on the changes that are coming in August you can find it here: https://www.manhattangre.com/newGRE.cfm
These changes are of special importance to students planning to apply to grad school this fall. The scale on which the test is scored is changing with the new exam, and ETS will need time to calibrate that new scale. As a result, students may be unable to report scores from the new GRE to schools this fall if their school of choice has an application deadline in November or earlier. A full explanation of these dates are included at the link above.

Why ETS changed the format of GRE Exam? Are they trying to ....
1) attract more students for GRE test?
2) Increase the acceptability of GRE score by Business Schools?
3) be Potential heavyweight competitor of GMAC?

Hi Nafishasan60. Your guesses are on the mark. ETS is focusing heavily on making the test "more test-taker friendly" by allowing students to review answers and read ahead before answering questions (something you can't do on the current GRE CAT). This focus on friendliness is part of an effort to attract more students. Also, they are increasing the math difficulty to be more attractive to B-Schools which in turn will help them act as a more viable alternative to the GMAT. Hope that is helpful!
