A number is divided by 3/7 and then multiplied by 5/8. The net effect (approx) is:

(A) the number decreases by 22%
(B) the number increases by 46%
(C) the number decreases by 33%
(D) the number increases by 33%
(E) none of these

I think the easiest way would be to pick numbers such as a number divisible by Three.

maybe 24. So you get 24 x 7/3 and then x 5/8

Sorry I just lost my messages I’m walking and typing at the same time. I got 24 is the initial number and 35 as the final number. So it is 46% for my quick calculations. B 🤷‍♂️

Can anyone explain why D is the correct answer ?
Doing a quick send to check on Calculator which you will not be able to do at the test center, 3/7*5/8 = 1.46 approx.

Oh I got it

so you find the value of n first which is 3

then you plug n back into the equation without putting in the value of x to solve for x

by plugging n back in, i mean plug into the equation and find values of x

You’ll get 20 and -2

Hi just starting out with me prep for GMAT - have read about this on couple of firms - hence wanted to double check. is GMAT section adaptive as well? If I am weak in one section should I take that up first or later than the sections that I have more control over?

It is a big debate but what seems everyone agrees on is that it is adaptive. But some are good that it matters and others argue that it doesn’t matter.

From my experiments with GMAT prep, it seems the cut off and impact only plays a role if you’re scoring below or above 50th% tile. So for most acres who are gunning for a high score, it doesn’t really change anything, to the best of my/our current knowledge. So one less thing to worry about

Thanks bb, another question that I have is - if I use review feature and am able to correct 1/2 or 3 answers through it, is there a reflection of that in the final score with the percentile being lower than a scenario where I marked them right in the first attempt?

Reason: since the test is adaptive, so assuming I marked them wrong first and difficulty level dropped and I continued with the test. Before end of the test, I review them and am able to change the answer to the correct one.

Or is the scoring mechanism agile enough to reverse the negative effect of initially marking the answers incorrectly (with 3 as the limit, given the number of reviews allowed)?

I have not noticed any impact on the score if you change the answers. There are a few tricky things that people can attempt and they are well-known. For example, you may try to answer three questions incorrectly on purpose, three easy questions and then come back and correct them at the end. The test takers are aware of these loopholes and they have Accounted for them.

at the moment, there is no strategy or loophole that has been discovered or identified and there hasn’t been a lack of trying 😂😇

Hi. No worries. Jump in all you need 👍 Sorry about the unanswered question. It does impact the score very significantly to leave a question and answered. I should not submit it. Even if you choose an answer but don’t submit it, it’s considered unanswered which is kind of annoying.

In my experiments with GMAT you lose about 4 to 5 points off the score for not answering/submitting the question.

So instead of DI 71, It would’ve been DI 75 or DI 76.
