Hi MBAsoul,
First of all, a 720 is a great start! Great job!!! Given that you used only a few prep books to study for your initial GMAT, you probably were not totally exposed to all GMAT topics throughout your prep and saw some unfamiliar topics/principles on your actual GMAT that prevented you from achieving your 760 score goal.
With your score at about the 94th percentile, you do not have to start from scratch to improve your score. Thus, a great course of action would be following a regimen of focused practice to find and fix areas in which your knowledge continues to lag and affect your score.
For example, if you are reviewing Critical Reasoning, be sure to practice a large number of questions just from Critical Reasoning: strengthen and weaken the conclusion, resolve the paradox, find the conclusion, must be true, etc. After practicing a large number of CR questions, you may find that you struggle mostly with “must be true” and “find the conclusion” questions. If that is the case, be sure to spend some time improving your knowledge of those areas before moving on to the next verbal topic.
Also, you might consider ordering your enhanced score report so you can get a better idea of your weakest verbal topics among Sentence Correction, Critical Reasoning, and Reading Comprehension.
Although you already have a 49 in quant, you may consider following a similar routine so you can bump your score up to a 50 or 51. For example, if you are reviewing Number Properties, be sure that you can practice 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc. Based on the results, you can find and fix your weak areas. Only then should you move on to the next quant topic.
If you would like some help determining your quant strengths and weaknesses, I welcome you to take my free
37-question quant diagnostic. After completing the diagnostic, you will be provided with a detailed analysis of your proficiency level in GMAT quant topics and an opportunity to discuss your diagnostic results with me or another TTP instructor/coach.
Finally, since you only used a few prep books for your initial exam, for your retake you might consider using a more robust online self-study course.
If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to me directly. Good luck!
