I'm applying next spring with a partner to CBS and we're trying to increase our odds of studying in the same place. I was thinking about applying to the Data Science MS on par with the MBA to do this, but i'm not sure if this will work against me, maybe signalling to the committee that I don't really know what I want.
I'm pretty dead sure I want an MBA, but I'm also trying to increase our couples' odds.
Has anybody done something similar? Do you know if the schools talk to each other about these kinds of issues or dual applicants?
Thanks.
I'm at CBS right now, and would recommend against applying to both programs, unless your story is completely airtight. The fact that you'll say your partner is also applying will increase your chances anyway - make sure to tie that into your story as well.
Also, what's your background? I would in general recommend against the Data Science masters. I was an engineer and worked in as a data scientist at a "big" data analytics firm before CBS, and for 99.9% of the work you do not need the masters in data science - you'd be much better off with: 1) a Masters in CS, with a focus in machine learning, or 2) learn "data science" on your own.
