Hi Rich,

Thanks for taking out your valuable guide. Here is little background of where I stand:

1 year back I gave first GMAT and got 650 (q49, v28).

2 weeks back I took off from my office to study full time for GMAT. In my latest practice in Quant, I am feeling quite confident to achieve target score of q50. In Verbal, I need to improve my SC and RC score drastically. I have 2 more months (full time) from now to give GMAT in which I am planning to give 80-90% of time on SC and RC.

In SC, I completed MGMAT SC guide and in GMAT Paper Test SC questions, my accuracy is 70% (mixed level of questions). I brought OG 2013 edition, Verbal Review and Jamboree Study Material (went for its classroom training program when I was preparing last time). I downloaded PDF from the-most-comprehensive-collection-of-everything-official-sc-140372.html. Till yesterday, I was thinking to study all the questions from this PDF and participate extensively on GMATClub.com forums before I move to next topic; however, a few questions in this PDF are quite old. I haven't touched RC yet.

My target is to achieve somewhere around 700-720 (6-9 points improvement in Verbal). As my accuracy rate is still 70% in SC, I am feeling quite demotivated these days. Can you please guide me

Thanks
Rohit

Hi rohitmanglik,

There are so many quality study materials currently available that you shouldn't have to use any practice materials that are that old.

1) Other than this website, what practice materials have you been working with?
2) How have you been scoring on your practice CATs?
3) When are you planning to take the Official GMAT?

Considering that your quant score is in the Q49/50 range, I would say don't need to use older official GMAT practice questions. Instead, move on to the more recent stuff from GMAC: GMATPrep Question Pack 1, Exam Pack 1, GMAT Focus, etc.

For verbal, I do think you will benefit from the older stuff, partly because many of them are on the easier side because those questions were written for a different timing. But even in this scenario you will find plenty of recent official GMAT questions in the sources I mentioned earlier.

Hi Rohit,

Since we have your old Official GMAT Score to use as a basis for comparison, when was the last time that you took a FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections)? What were your scores (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

Hi Rich,

I haven't taken GMAT CAT after the Official one, which was on November last year, as I am yet to touch RC.

In actual GMAT test my score was Q28, V49, AWA:5.5 and IR:7.

Thanks
Rohit

Hi Rohit,

Since it's been 10 months since you've taken any type of full-length Test (Official or CAT), it would be a good idea for you to take one soon (possibly this weekend), so that we can get a sense of your current abilities. It might also be worthwhile to get in some RC practice before then. Once you have those scores, you should report back here.
