Hi,
GMATinsight has already given the perfect explanation for the above question.
Let me try to give an alternative approach,
Best part of MCQ questions is, its comes with options, we can always try to narrow down the choices by eliminating the wrong answer choices.
Question: What is the area of the largest face of the box ?
There are six faces in a rectangular box and each face is a rectangle, Also there are three dimensions in a rectangle like length, width and height.
There are two faces for each dimension i.e., length & width, width & height, height & length
So, there will be two faces with dimensions 15 * 8. So, the area of this face is 120.
Other faces should be 15 * x and 8 *x, if “x” is the unknown dimensions.
Maximum area would be for the face with dimension 15 * x.
Question asks for maximum area of a face(rectangle), so definitely we can eliminate answer choices E.
We can also eliminate answer choice D, because total surface is given as 1160, even if we remove the 240(2*15*8), the remaining area is far away from 120.
So answer choices should be a multiple of 15 and out of remaining answer choices of A, B and C only answer choice B(300) works.
So the answer is B.
Hope this helps.
