why is 'D' wrong in question 4th

The passage mentions the Cold War as a point in the evolution of the American Dream but does not explicitly state whether it helped "mutate" the notion. It mentions that the term became a triumphalist patriotic assertion during that period.

5. Why does the author mention Epic of America in the first paragraph?
Can anyone explain the answer of this question?

Explanation

5. Why does the author mention Epic of America in the first paragraph?

Difficulty Level: 700

Explanation

(A) While it's true that the passage mentions when the term was coined, the primary purpose of mentioning "Epic of America" is not simply to provide the date when the term was coined. It's to attribute the definition of the American Dream to James Truslow Adams in that specific work.

(B) This option is quite close to the correct answer. However, it doesn't capture the precise purpose of mentioning "Epic of America." It correctly acknowledges that James Truslow Adams defined the American Dream but doesn't specifically mention that this definition occurred in his work "Epic of America."

(C) This option is not accurate because it doesn't align with the purpose of mentioning "Epic of America."

(D) This option correctly captures the purpose of mentioning "Epic of America." The author mentions "Epic of America" to highlight that this is the work in which James Truslow Adams first articulated and defined the notion of the American Dream in 1931.

(E) This option is incorrect because it attributes a different purpose to the mention of "Epic of America." The passage does discuss the evolution of the American Dream concept, but this isn't the primary reason for mentioning the book. The primary reason is to establish when and where the term and its definition were first articulated.

Answer: D

In Question 5, why the the option B is not the right option. As it states that James defined the Term for the first time, hence he mentioned the "Epic of America".

Hi,
Can you please explain how to deduce correct choices for question 3 and 4. For the 3rd question I am confused in options C and D and for the 4th question between A and D.

I might be too late for the response on this one, but if you're interested. It says prevailing notion, ie what it means today! So no, it did not mutate the meaning to what its today but to what it was back in the time when it "became a triumphalist patriotic assertion, a term that defined the United States in the eyes of an outsider"

Hello bestreturn

Both A and D could be the answer so i think this question is debateable. Better not to bother it.
