Hi Devil,
Thanks for your kind wishes, and I really want them to come true! - but I’m on R1 wl at JBS, so no news are expected until February. Got Season’s Greetings from them, though.
As for your questions – I’m afraid I can tell nothing reassuring. I haven’t talked with Asian students at Said, but from what I heard, the career prospects for those graduated this year and for the class of 2009 are rather grim. If you’re a switcher – you could change only one factor of ‘function, industry, location’, and even this will be hard. Move into finance jobs is almost impossible; and even if you had a prior experience, it will be tough for you.
At Judge, the career manager said that the prospects are expected to improve slightly for the class of 2010 (for us, that is). But still, I felt that we were advised to be very modest in our career expectations – to the extent that it could be wise to agree to a step back in terms of position and responsibility, if you wish to remain in the UK.
A former highly skilled migrants programme is no longer in action (since June, I believe), and this MBA-shortcut is no longer available, too. However, you could apply for 1 year permit for post-study work, and then, if you manage to gain all the necessary point, to apply for a work permit under the general scheme.
To prashok:
So sorry to hear that, friend...
But you have your LBS admit, so I hope you were not too discouraged!
