You may be right for section 12 -- essays section. But in section 9A, I can type more than the limt of 300 words. And in section 11, form doesn't let me type more than 72 words, though limit was set to 100.
That's because the form has a character limit, not a word limit ldo. That question in particular annoyed the **** out of me as I went ahead and wrote a 100 word essay like I was instructed to and couldn't fit it in as I tend to use long words.
Anyway, I decided what the hell, I'm not busy right now, so I fired in a couple apps to Oxbridge. Does anyone around here have a good feel for what makes a successful candidate or not?
I don't do the whole write-essays-months-in-advance-and-proof-read-the-bejesus-out-of-them-until-I'm-on-my-300th-draft thing. I think that is utterly absurd personally, and I'm a much bigger fan of waking up early the day the app is due and cranking out a bunch of essays. That said, I'm a decent writer, so I don't think my essays will necessarily be a weakness on my app.
Otherwise, I do well on standardized tests, but was disappointed with my quant score on the last GMAT I took. This was the first time I have EVER scored higher in verbal than in math on any test I have ever taken. I actually took the GMAT a little over 5 years ago when I was an undergrad and got the exact same overall, but higher math and lower verbal. Decent GPA with plenty of awards to go with my undergrad biz degree.
As for work experience, I am just another I banker. Middle market and boutique though, compared to the more common bulge bracket d-bags. I made Associate at the age of 23, so I can bullshit about professional accomplishments with the best of them. I also left last year (good timing

) to be an independent consultant for a while. Not sure if that will look like I am 'unemployed' though (got references from my clients just in case).
Perhaps the most interesting thing I have going on is I am South African (lolallblacks

) and I grew up all over the world (literally - I was on my second passport by the age of 15). Did my undergrad in America and all my work experience as well, but I tried to message that I wanted to break that cycle by going to the UK.
Anyone care to place any odds on my candidacy?
Off to SA, Botswana and then the UK (in time for interviews if I am invited) next Wednesday, so I'll be in a good mood no matter how bad my chances are!
