Did most of you write about a well-known development or event in response to Oxford's Essay2? I'm asking this because a recent development at my non-profit has changed my thinking about managing people, and I can best write about this story. I'm concerned if Said expects us to write only about developments that make public news.
I wrote about a book, too, which had changed the way I thought of Finnish society. I loosely tied it up to British society, too. Perhaps the topic was popularistic, but my perspective was very personal and also involved my family ancestry as well as discussions with my sister, a sociologist. So no, I did not write about current events.

I got my admission package to Oxford yesterday, by the way. Really cool. I especially loved the little blue booklet about Oxford traditions and oddities. Too bad Cambridge only sent the paperwork. Perhaps they'll get back with the admission package once finances & college have been sorted out?

I don't think they would insist only on events which make public news. What's important is to show how the event influenced you as a person and the impact it has had on your thinking. I wrote about a book I had read and as I look back, I think it was my best essay ever amongst all my applications - also, the interviewer specially complemented me for it.

Thanks. In that case, I will go ahead with my story and write about how this particular development (in which I was involved), changed my thinking. Lets see how it turns out.

You mean the blue booklet? I'd rather keep it, sorry. :) And the business card case, as well.

Surely they're going to make you send it back, if you're still going to Judge. :P

Per an email an admitted student received, "The Cambridge background check involves a thorough search of your belongings. Any evidence of prior contact with Oxford, presence of University of Oxford stationery, or even the possession of anything remotely blue might result in warranted consequences".

I wrote about the recent developments in my industry and how it affected me. Those developments did not make public news: it was more about the way I see things changing in my line of work.

Congratulations to ALL admits.

Sorry haven't been posting much. Those of you who are coming to SBS will know why they call Hilary, "hellery"

Lots of interesting discussion about SBS, JBS, clubs, work experience, admissions, job prospects.

I would just like to say with regards to the above topics, b-schools recruit you for your potential. The rest is upto the individual. You will get a unique experience at which ever school you go to. There are 240 classmates in my class, and guess what, all their MBA experiences are different to mine. Don't read too much into blog and forum posts - these are just 1 person's point of view. Visit the schools, make your mind up by speaking to people face to face or on the phone. If someone wants to call me, PM me and I'll be happy to oblige.

Goodluck for future applicants!!

I assume you're Welsh (since you didn't specify where you are from), so you won't need any visa to interview at Cambridge.

If you want a better answer, we'll need more information :P
