I moved to Houston from Louisiana at the start of the year and decided to apply to Rice for their professional MBA program. I got accepted this week but I do not have sponsorship from my company (new role so they want to see my performance). I need some help in deciding what my options are... Here are my thoughts:
1. Attend Rice and Pay for it out of pocket - $110k
2. Attend University of Houston and Pay - $42k I have not applied but the deadline is June 1st. I assume I would get in.
3. Get commitment from company for next year and go to Rice - It would be about 50% after tax
4. Apply to top 10 Full time MBA program for Fall 2019
*Any company funding requires me to stay with the company for 2 years after graduation
Profile:
Undergrad - State School, 3.71 GPA, 2 degrees - Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering
GMAT - 730
Work Experience - 6 years at a large integrated Oil and Gas company. 3 roles all within engineering
Long Term Goals: That's the biggest issue. I'm interested in a variety of things. I would like to do something outside of engineering. Maybe business development. Consulting. IB. Just not really sure. I'm doing well at my current company and just took a promotion. The pay is good and there are a lot of opportunities. I think if I do a part time MBA it will help me in my current role but it will not necessarily lead to a promotion. It will help me down the line but its not concrete where an MBA leads to a direct promotion. That is why it is hard for me to justify funding the whole part time MBA out of pocket.
I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!
