Re: People who oppose motorcycle helmet laws argue that in a free society [#permalink]

People who oppose motorcycle helmet laws argue that in a free society people have the right to expose themselves to risk so long as it does not harm others. Therefore, each individual motorcyclist should decide whether or not to wear a helmet.

Which of the following, if true, would be the strongest argument against the conclusion above?

A) A greater percentage of motorcyclists wearing helmets die in accidents than do motorcyclists who do not wear helmets.

B) The high rates of deaths and injuries stemming from motorcycle accidents increases insurance costs for all drivers, not just motorcycle riders.

C) Drivers in cars are required to wear seat belts in nearly all states.

D) States that have mandatory-helmet laws have lower fatality rates than states that don't have those laws.

E) An anti-helmet law activist recently had a severe head injury stemming from a motorcycle accident while not wearing a helmet.

IMO B

Argument states that NOT wearing helmet harms only the individual who does not wear the helmet.
We have to weaken this.
Something which shows that NOT wearing helmet harms others too.
Only option B states that.
Increase in cost of other drivers including those who already wear helmet , is a kind of harm to others.
Hence option B weakens the argument the most.

IMO B , premise says "people have the right to expose themselves to risk so long as it does not harm others." Answer B proves that by not hearing a helmet they harm others.
