Perhaps the most significant and constructive change in national politics would be the abolition of the Vice Presidency.

Each of the following, if true, would strengthen the above argument, except:

(A) There are few, if any, specific duties or responsibilities assigned to the Vice Presidency.
(B) A historian claimed that the post was "superfluous."
(C) People of Presidential caliber refused the Vice Presidential nomination.
(D) The office can waste a good politician for four or eight years.
(E) The office puts people in line for the Presidency who were not chosen to be President.
To strengthen this argument:
Each choice should provide a reason why the Vice Presidency is unnecessary or problematic, except for one, which would not strengthen the argument.
Option Analysis:
  • (A): "Few, if any, specific duties or responsibilities are assigned to the Vice Presidency."
This strengthens the argument by implying the role lacks significance.
  • (B): "A historian claimed that the post was 'superfluous.'"
This also strengthens the argument because a historian’s opinion reinforces the idea that the position is unnecessary.
  • (C): "People of Presidential caliber refused the Vice Presidential nomination."
This strengthens the argument by suggesting that qualified leaders do not see value in the position, reinforcing its lack of importance.
  • (D): "The office can waste a good politician for four or eight years."
This strengthens the argument by showing that the role might prevent capable politicians from using their talents effectively.
  • (E): "The office puts people in line for the Presidency who were not chosen to be President."
This does not strengthen the argument. While this is a fact about the Vice Presidency, it doesn’t necessarily imply that the role should be abolished. It simply describes the succession system, which could be seen as useful or neutral, rather than a reason for abolition.

I fail to see how the abolition of a role with "few, if any, specific duties or responsibilities" would make MOST SIGNIFICANT change?
