Hello all,

I was hoping you could evaluate my profile and help me decide where to apply. My current rough list of target schools is: Duke, UT Austin, Foster, Vanderbilt, Michigan.
- White male, 26
- Work at Merrill Lynch as an advisor and analyst for a Global Institutional Consulting and Private Banking team
- GMAT: 680 44/38 (this is a retake and improvement from 650 and honestly about the best I think I can do right now)
- Undergrad BBA double major in Finance and Management 4.0 from a state school
- Solid recommendations
- Volunteer work: on the board of directors of three non-profits (one very large well known NP) and the VP of Development for one of the boards
- Want to transition to a role in either Marketing or Consulting (I have previous marketing and sales experience from a company I started and sold in college).
- First generation college student (don't know if that is actually useful or not).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Is my school list good? To many stretches? Not a legitimate stretch included?

Thank you in advance,

Hey NJackson40

Thanks for posting! OK, lots of great interesting stuff here. The 4.0 will help you!! As will the great community service. The 680 though will make things tough. Not impossible, but tough. I think you've put together a good mix of schools but maybe add one or more of Georgetown, Notre Dame, UNC. The first generation college student will not make your candidacy, but still can help push you over the edge if they're trying to select from similar people. I think you are the type of person who will get a lot out of a free consultation. Follow the link in my signature and set one up with us so we can chat more. (I am not on tap for consults until next weekend, the 5th,, I think. So if that's too far out, when our HQ follows-up on your request, feel free to just choose the consultant that best matches your availability.)

My best,
