This is so bizarre. Blows my mind. The rules surrounding the hybrid system are also grey. Why would you risk an infection and stack up 200 people in a class room? I was under the impression that the first module would be a couple of batches classroom and the second the next two batches. How do big programs with 1000 students in a class handle such a change?

Perhaps they can rent out the hospitals to accommodate their students? ?

This is similar to how certain states that only did not require masks but also prohibited municipalities from enacting mask orders ?

My guess is that business schools will end up offering one class a week for 15 minutes to solve this issue ... Or some other creative solution. Something similar to what they have done with stem OPT

Can’t do haha according to the memo. Also by the sound of it if international students can’t get a visa in time then they may not be able to enrol. Which is every one right now.

So... what if a school says "We will have in-person classes" before the International students request Visas.
Then once all visas are issued, they actually end up doing something else?

The memo clearly says that schools will have to inform SEVIS of their choice by 4th August. And if they wish to go online in the middle of the semester given a second wave then international students will have to return to their home countries because they are only allowed to take 1 course online to maintain their full time status or school enrolment.

The schools can solve this problem by going fully online for the fall semester thus giving internationals a chance to enrol. But I doubt schools will do that. Almost everyone is embracing a hybrid system because otherwise students will start suing them for reducing the tuition fees. That’s my opinion.

This is really a lose lose for international students (except Canadians I guess) as no one is getting a visa prior to October anywhere.

This is going to be terrible for the returning second year students ??

I hope this does not stick. I can’t see how it will stick frankly (I am in denial)

This has been such a bad year! I'm starting to reconsider my decision to apply to the US for Fall'21. I'm not sure if paying 200,000 in such a hostile environment sounds logical. I know this is entirely subjective, but bb I would love to know what are the factors that you think international students should take into account when applying in the upcoming admissions cycle.

Crap. This beats me. I think there are no longer factors - it is a disaster at the moment. The only thing you can do is hope that it scares the hell out of everyone and you buy when the market is low (kind of like some of the folks almost lucked out this season who cleared WL's at schools that were much higher ranked). But there is no guarantee of anything it seems. Elections coming and maybe things will be better or maybe things will be much worse. I think the ONLY strategy I can think of right now is diversification and instead of applying to just US bschools, it makes sense to consider Canada and Europe... not as a strategy but just for the hell of it.

Sounds fair! Thanks bb. At this moment, I think places like UK, Singapore and Canada might see a lot of applicants. Europe might deter applicants primarily because of the language barriers while recruiting.

This is an absolute disaster. Students are not allowed to begin a program remotely. But then no one can get a visa before the start of the program. And if the program goes online then one has to transfer to another school which does a hybrid system. Like da faq transferring in an MBA is that easy? Wtf

I feel so bad for the second year students (class of 2021). I mean online classes and missing internships due to COVID was bad enough now they have to leave for their home countries. How will they be able to network and find jobs? This has been a disastrous year. Leveredge emailed me the following link. Find out if your school qualifies and if you will have to leave of stay.
