Hi everyone,
I have 7years of experience working as a mechanical design engineer and now want to pivot away from technical roles (not passionate about + not great at ME). I am applying for MBA program in 2025. I think because of my age (I'm 31 and will be 32 when start MBA), IB and consulting is pretty much out for me. I'm also very unfamiliar with all the different concentrations and opportunites open with MBA. I was thinking about going into product management focused on hardware, corporate finance (but what does this even mean?) or maybe corporate leadership program (does this have age limit or preference?). Open to consulting if that's a possibility and think I can handle the work load for at least a couple years. Anyone with similar background can provide some insight?

@KishiQ - I've worked with candidates aged 35+ who have gotten into consulting in MBB's - age is no barrier to consulting. If you're really passionate about consulting and it's what you want to do, you need to be confident and go all in!
To be clear, IT IS difficult to break into consulting (particularly if you're 30+), but if you're targeting the right firms/ geographies (this is key), preparing well (case/ fit interviews) and networking extensively, IT IS absolutely doable!
What would be crucial is to identify your transferable skills and position your profile strategically to the best-fit firms/ arms. PM seems like a viable option too, given the technical/ design angle in your profile. Corporate Leadership Programs can be interesting too. The options are open, you need to identify which one(s) you truly are passionate about, research well, and weave a tight narrative.
Targeting the right MBA programs (with a good % alum in your target roles) is crucial, as it can help facilitate the transition. With more details, we can help prioritize key schools based on key factors such as these.
