Because if you want to give x the greatest value, it means you have to set y = 0, because in this way x can take the largest possible value (100).

So, if y = 0, the equation becomes:
x4 = 100

To get rid of the exponent 4 (to find the actual value of x), you have to take the fourth root of 100, which is approximately 3.16.

I suggest searching the forum: https://gmatclub.com/forum/a-b-and-c-ar ... 89093.html

It's very easy. Go to the respective forum (PS in this case: https://gmatclub.com/forum/problem-solving-ps-140/ ) and use the search box.

A. Citizens of Country 777 use the Internet frequently.

B. The government of 777 is more focused on health problems than on Internet infrastructures.

C. Internet infrastructures are complex and expensive to install.

D. A competitive market encourages companies to reduce prices.

E. There is only one Internet company in 777 because the others were unsuccessful and had to cease operations.

Scientists have discovered a gene that controls whether an individual is monogamous. They took a gene from the monogamous prairie vole and implanted it into its more promiscuous relative, the meadow vole. Thereafter, the meadow voles with the new gene became monogamous.

Which one of the following, if true, would provide the most support for the argument’s conclusion?

(A) Studies on humans and other mammals have shown that receptors for the hormone vasopressin play a role in autism, drug addiction, and the formation of romantic attachments.

(B) Prairie voles typically form lifelong partnerships, which scientists have linked to an increased number of receptors for the hormone vasopressin.

(C) Meadow voles live in a harsher environment than prairie voles and cannot afford to pass up opportunities to mate as often as possible.

(D) The scientists used a harmless virus to capture the gene and transfer it into the meadow voles.

(E) The meadow voles that had the prairie vole gene implanted in them were released into and observed in the same habitat in which they had previously lived.

T=81x, and x could be 1,2,3 for t<300 i.e.(T =81,162,243 and all<300),so no conclusive value for sq rt. T. Hence insufficient.

C:D = 11:15 and D:H=3:11. That means C:D:H = 11:15:55. Lets say n is the common factor, then 11n+15n+55n=81n=T.
Statement 1 says T<300
81n<300
n<3.something
n can only be an integer because we are talking about animals(which can only be integers), so valid n values are 1,2 and 3.
No definitive answer. Insufficient.
