One year, large quantities of the catnip weed bloomed in corn fields located in a region with a large aphid population. Since aphids feed on cornstalks, the fields would normally attract aphids, yet no aphids were found in the fields. Nepetalactone, a chemical produced by the catnip weed, is known to repel several types of insects, including aphids, so it is likely that the nepetalactone from the catnip repelled the aphids.

Which of the following, if true, most strengthens the argument?

A. Nepetalactone is also found in clovers but at concentrations lower than in the catnip weed.
B. Many insect species not repelled by nepetalactone were found in the corn fields throughout the year.
C. By the end of the year, most of the cornstalks in the fields had been killed by fungi transmitted from the catnip.
D. The aphid population of the overall region was much lower during the year in which the catnip weed bloomed than it had been in previous years.
E. Aphids are known to be susceptible to toxins in plants other than the catnip weed, such as larkspurs.

An engineering firm specializes in installing environmentally friendly components, such as solar panels and green technology, on the rooftops of many different types of buildings in a large urban area. Each project is assigned to one of several installation teams. The owner, who is concerned with costs, is conducting an analysis of worker efficiency. Once he has completed the analysis, he plans to retrain the team that has the highest average projected completion time in order to improve that team's efficiency.

Which one of the following, if true, most seriously calls into question the owner’s plan for selecting the team to be retrained?

A. The installation fees that the firm charges its customers are lower than those charged for similar projects done by other companies.
B. If the time that the team takes to finish a project is not lowered significantly, the firm could lose business to competitors.
C. The team that has the highest average completion time tends to be assigned the most complex projects.
D. Retraining the team will substantially increase the short-term costs of the firm and thereby impact its profitability.
E. Maximum efficiency can only be achieved if the team with the highest average completion rate is terminated.

Hey Everyone,

Can anyone suggest some good source for Quant problems in gmatclub? I have bought the subscription on GMATClub and practicing with Forum Quiz, however, the source are giving some problems which I believe that are out of scope and would not be asked in the exam. Ultimately, I get disheartened by seeing the accuracy, and constant wrong answers

Generally two groups: 1. Reputable (legacy) prep companies, such as Manhattan GMAT, Veritas Prep, Kaplan, etc. 2. GMAT Club compilations - 1000 Series and Competition Questions.

Nalanda, a revered Buddhist monastery of the ancient kingdom of Magadha, had large teaching institutions such as Taxila, Nalanda, and Vikramashila. It is likely that Nalanda was a particularly renowned centre of learning of the Magadha kingdom. A study of ancient manuscripts reveals that, at its peak, Nalanda attracted scholars and students from near and far, with some travelling from as far as Tibet, China, Korea, and Central Asia. Only a particularly renowned centre of learning could have incentivized scholars and students to travel thousands of miles to attend it.

In the argument given, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?

(A) The first is premise used to support the main conclusion of the argument; the second is the main conclusion of the argument.
(B) The first is an inference drawn from another statement in the argument; the second is an inference drawn from the first.
(C) The first is one of the two premises used in support of the main conclusion of the argument; the second is the other of those two premises.
(D) The first is premise used to provide support for the main conclusion of the argument; the second is a premise used to support another conclusion that the argument draws.
(E) The first is the main conclusion of the argument; the second is a premise used to support that conclusion.

Online retail sales have been increasing annually for a number of years. When packages fulfilling these sales are delivered to homes, the dogs in those homes bark both when the delivery truck approaches the home and when the doorbell is rung. Because the dogs perceive the delivery activities as a threat to their territory, they bark more loudly and for a longer time then they do when they bark for other reasons. Consequently, there is bound to be an increase in the number of barking-dog nuisance complaints called in to local police departments.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?

A. There are indications that in recent years, the daily number of residences visited by each delivery truck has markedly increased.
B. The increase in the number of packages delivered per day to residences on weekends has not increased at the same rate as those delivered on weekdays.
C. Some people are concerned about crime and want to be aware when their neighborhoods are entered by nonresidents.
D. Complaints about barking dogs almost always arise after a longstanding feud between neighbors results in overreactions to common disturbances.
E. Due to the intense competition for customers, more online retailers are offering free or discounted shipping fees or requiring smaller minimum orders for free shipping.

A. t/2 - s
B. (t + s)/2
C. t(s − 1)
D. t - s/2
E. t − 2s
Reference No. 452327

Answer is C

120^2 = (2^3 * 3 * 5)^2
= 2^6 * 3^2 * 5^2
So, total number of factors = (6+1)*(2+1)*(2+1) = 63

But question is asking positive odd factors. So there should not be any multiple of 2.

Odd factors = 2^0 * 3^2 * 5^2
= 1 * (2+1) * ( 2+1)
= 1 * 3 * 3
= 9

A. t/2 - s
B. (t + s)/2
C. t(s − 1)
D. t - s/2
E. t − 2s
Answer is B

Let's assume that laptop uses L watt;

and Desktop uses D watts

Given that Laptop comp. uses s fewer watts of electricity than Desktop does.
D - L = s ........(1)

In combination, both computers uses t watts of electricity

D + L = t ........(2)

Addition of eq. 1 and 2
We get

2D = (t+s)
D = (t+s)/2
