Assume F for french only, B for both and G for german only, so F+B = 140, (F+G)/(F+G+B) = 0.4, and F/(F+G+B) = 0.1, substitute the values and you’ll get G= 60

Isn’t the formula total=F+G+Neither-Both?

B won’t be subtracted unless you assume the whole french (which includes French learners and Both learners) learning population to be F, I considered the french only population to be F

So your entire learning population is those who are learning just french, just german and both

Each student in St. Mary school studies either French, German, or both. There are 140 students who study French and 40% of the students study exactly one of these languages. If 10% of the students study only French, how many students study only German?

A) 20
B) 60
C) 80
D) 180
E) 200

Since there are no students who study neither French nor German (so Neither = 0), we can write:

    {Total} = {Only French} + {Only German} + {Both}

It is given that {Only French} + {Only German} = 40% of the total and {Only French} = 10% of the total. Therefore, {Only German} = 30% of the total.

Furthermore, since 140 students study French, then {Only French} + {Both} = 140.

So, we get:

    {Total} = 140 + {Only German}
    {Total} = 140 + 0.3{Total}
    {Total} = 200

Hence, {Only German} = 0.3{Total} = 0.3*200 = 60.

Answer: B.

Looking for a solution for this one!

On Monday, 150 customers visited a cafeteria. Each customer had a drink, either hot or cold, from the choice of either coffee or tea or flavored milk.
2/5 of the customers had cold beverages, of which 20 had coffee and 25 had tea. The ratio of the number of customers who had cold tea to the number of customers who had cold coffee is equal to the ratio of the number of customers who had tea to the number of customers who had coffee. If none of the customers had hot flavored milk, what percent of the customers who had hot drinks had coffee?

A) 100/9%
B) 200/9%
C) 300/9%
D) 400/9%
E) 500/9%

I received a geometry question in 3 out of the 4 official mocks I have written. But they don’t test jour geometry skills. However, you’re expected to know the basics, for example, a cube has 12 edges and stuff like that..
