A bag consists of 3 black, 4 white, and 5 red bottles. If 3 bottles are picked randomly from
the bag, what is the probability that:

(i) All the 3 bottles selected are black.

(ii) None of the bottles selected is white.

(iïi) All the bottles selected are not white.

(iv) All the 3 bottles selected are of different
colours.

Hey can anyone explain me the difference between 2&3

So, if it is 1-4c3/12c3 then the the answer is 41/55 and if it is at least 1 bottle is not white means (0/1/2) the answer is 54/55. Both are not matching.

It might be at least 1 white bottle and at most 2 white bottles. Neither 0 white (2nd question) nor all 3 white IMO

Answers are :
1/220
14/55
54/55
3/11

2 means all of them are non-white
But 3 means at least one of them is non-white

That’s how they are different

1-4c3/12c3 =

1 - 4/2*11*10 =1-4/220
= 216/220 = 54/55

2. None are white

8/12 * 7/11 * 6/10
Or
8C3/12c3

3. Not all are white, meaning 0 or 1 or 2 could be but not all 3

PE of not all are white = 1- PE of all are white
Whic is, 1- 4c3/12c3
Or
Long calculation
1 white 2 other
2 white 1 other
0 white 3 other

(3c1* 8c2 + 3c2* 8c1 + 8c3)/ 12c3

Sorry, it’s my bad. I did 1-14/55 instead of 1-4c3/12c3.
