Do we have individual groups for question of the day? For Quant, Verbal and DI?
Hi. All of the questions of the day are posted here or at least they should be. (Let me know if not).

PS. Because we used to have individual groups but very few people seem to pay attention and would discuss anything and everything so it made sense to just group them into one.

The popular press continually advises people to avoid various health risks. Yet by seeking to avoid health risks, people inevitably become anxious, and anxiety, in turn, poses a health risk. Thus, paradoxical as it seems, simply disregarding journalists’ advice about reducing health risks is bound to pose less of a health risk than does trying to follow any such advice.

The given argument assumes which of the following?

A) The popular press is not unanimous in its recommendations to people wishing to avoid various health risks.
B) The anxiety, if any, produced by disregarding generalists’ advice to avoid health risks is less than that produced by attempting to heed this advice.
C) Most sources of dealing with personal anxiety are themselves anxiety inducinng.
D) A significant proportion of the people who, following generalists’ advice, seek to avoid specific health risks cannot avoid those risks completely.
E) Journalists who advise people to avoid various health risks render their advice in needlessly alarming language.

In this question ^^, why is the answer B. thats just restating the paradox.

maybe this paradox is because "how" journalists present the news which is E which creates unnecessary anxiety.

The logic behind B is as follows according to me -

When an author says the plan will work, s/he assumes that s/he has taken all the variables that can affect the viability of the plan into consideration. What B does is introduce a variable that the author may not have taken into consideration - anxiety caused by ignoring the advice of the popular press. What this answer choice says that the anxiety caused by the ignorance ( if any) is lesser than the anxiety caused by heeding to it - therefore shooting down the variable which the author may not have considered and upholding the sanctity of the argument.

As part of the courting season of lance-tailed manikins, a beta male follows the alpha male to the female, where they both perform a dance made of a complex series of stunts and flight displays. After the performance, only the alpha male mates, however. Researchers deduce that the beta male hopes to benefit by one day becoming an alpha male himself.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously strengthens the researchers' argument?

A. Research done by zoologists from 2006 to 2007, where manikin males were tagged the first year, then checked the following year, shows that both alphas and betas had the same status in 2007.

B. Bird watchers have reported that 30% of beta manikin males seen in the spring of 2006 were not found among the group in the spring of 2007.

C. Zoologists are recognizing the social benefits awarded to beta males by the group in a large variety of bird species.

D. Only 90% of lance-tailed manikin alpha males survive from one mating season to the next.

E. A genetic survey of the chicks born in the group's nests in 2006 and in nearby groups in 2007 has shown that 15% of the beta males which performed the dance in 2006 became alpha males of neighboring groups in 2007.

We don’t have to resolve paradox we have to find assumption. Which B is solving.

If at all Journlaist do not advise people in alarming language it is not necessary that people will not follow it
