Hello All~

This is my first post on here. YEA! I'm not a troll anymore! lol

So I've been preparing to apply for B school for a few years. (Was a bit over zealous last year and apply to HBS before I was really ready). But, I'm ready this year and I have a questions. As part of prepping for school I've taken some pre-MBA classes at NYU-SCPS:

- Accounting
- Finance
- Stats
- Microeconomics

I've received A's in all of the courses, but as I've started my HBS 2017 app there is only space for (3) classes. I wanted to ask everyone which (3) of the above four class you would choose to highlight in the application? All comments are welcome!

That's a fantastic question and I'm glad you've been so proactive in the past year! The answer to your question is an easy one - Finance, Stats, and Micro. All of those are really important to the entire MBA experience. Accounting, while a great course to have taken, isn't one of the "building block" courses.

Thank you for the quick response! I really appreciate the help! Stats, Finance, and Mico it is! I would like to still highlight that I made the effort to take an accounting class. Where in the app would you suggest making note of that since I'm unable to enter it the extra class section?

You're very welcome! There are two places you could potentially add it in. One is on your resume - but you'd have to list all 4 in the education section. That isn't a bad option but should be done if you have the space only. Don't leave out a cool work bullet because you wanted to add your accounting course!

The other place (which might be best) is your optional essay. Just 10 - 15 words - Didn't fit, took Accounting too, got an A. Drop the mic and walk away :)

A good strategy might be to do both but I'd prioritize the optional essay!

Since I have a less-traditional background, I listed additional coursework as a single bullet at the bottom of my resume, in addition to including it on my app. Good luck on your HBS application!
