Princeton review test scoring algorithm

Question

I just tried Princeton review CAT, scoring 650. Breakup:

Quant: 41, with 5 Q wrong
Verbal: 39, with 8 Q wrong

While I might just agree with Verbal section score, I can't really digest that with just 5 Qs wrong, one can get 41 in Quant. Btw my quant score in the real GMAT was 44 and I'm sure I made many more mistakes there than I did on this PR CAT. Also, I really feel I've improved much more since then but this score is a let down.

Any such experiences, good people?

No prep company will tell you its algorithm as it would be giving away how it perceives the GMAC scoring method. The GMAC's algorithm is protected by its terms of use.

Incorrect problems alone means nothing. You must take into account # incorrect, difficulty and # sequential incorrect.

While other contributors here have made some good points, I have noticed that a number of members state that the test questions are a bit too easy. However, the test itself is strict in terms of how many you answer incorrectly. A few wrong answer choices, then, can result in an unexpected low score for some.

Yea, this seems pretty off in comparison to the GMAC algorithm... check the suggested link above, it explains it as best as one can, the actual GMAC algorithm is pretty complicated, and I don't think anyone has a 100% picture of it..

I did I did! Even the score calculator says 660. I got 650 on Knewton too, with almost the same break up scores if I recall correctly. Even then I remember complaining about the algorithm. May be I should stop complaining now and re-consider my test taking strategy.

I tried the Princeton review test yesterday. The quant section was really a joke. Verbal section was no better. Almost all the SC and CR questions were 2 liners. Had a horrible experience with the test.
