You have a shot, but it'll be tough based on the surface-level description you have provided. That might also just be the nature of the GMATClub forum, which is far from perfect.

Advantages: Your work experience, with all those promotions, is solid. Your academic performance looks great. Your career goal sounds interesting enough but do you have any experience with the field? What makes you think you can have an impact in that sector? Well-articulated essays will matter a lot for you.

Disadvantages/Unclear: Your GMAT (not knowing the V/Q split) is fine though not stellar for your competitive demographic. I am not seeing tremendous extracurricular accomplishments. Are you leaving anything out? What do you like to do for fun? Do you have any deep family involvement that might speak to your leadership? Who is writing your letters of recommendation?

I strongly recommend you reach out to us at Admissionado for a free consultation. It is a MUCH better forum for us to get to know you and assess your chances at these two excellent programs.

Hey shreyasalekar!

I would like to start off by saying that you have a pretty competitive profile.

To commence your profile evaluation, I would say that your academic background is quite strong. Your GPA of 7.1 in your post grad and 8.1 in your undergrad display your academic prowess. The brand name of BITS Pilani is further great addition to your profile as it will aid in strengthening your profile as top B-schools tend to favour candidates from top schools of each country.

Moving on, your GMAT score of 720 not only vouches for your excellent academic performance but would also allow you to target most of the top B-schools across the world.

Coming on to your work experience, you have 6 years of quality work experience in managerial positions. The brand name of Cisco alleviates your profile by backing up your excellent leadership and managerial skills. However, you should also be mindful of the fact that you’d be competing with applicants with similarly strong profiles. So, it is important to distinguish yourself from them by talking about the kind of projects you have undertaken, the impact you created and your career progression with major learning takeaways to show the uniqueness and worthiness of your candidature.

Further, on the note of extracurriculars, you must be cognizant of the fact that schools seek applicants having a holistic profile. Hence, accounting for the same, your involvement in community-building activities such as Becoming I foundation and animal angels highlights your empathetic attitude as well your potential to utilize your skills to create a positive impact on society. Extracurriculars are a great way to showcase your skills like leadership, networking, communication skills, etc. Therefore, to further build your profile in the same, I’d suggest you to take up some certifications such as Six Sigma to highlight your proactive attitude and your will to constantly upskill yourself.

Given your strong and well-rounded profile, you can target some of the following top schools across the world.
Dream: Duke, Berkeley, NYU, HEC
Competitive: Imperial, Essec, ESCP, FSFM, Mannheim, UT Dallas etc.

Lastly, another aspect that you should be acquainted with while applying to B-schools is the importance of a strong application. Since you wish to apply to a highly competitive program such as MBA, you’d be facing competition from a highly saturated and holistically developed competitor pool. Hence, a strong application would not only allow you to highlight your strengths but also allow you to distinguish you from other applicants.

Therefore, in lieu of that, I would recommend you to check out our flagship ALL-IN-ONE service, which has helped 3500+ applicants to get into their dream schools. As you are still in the early process of your application, it would provide you with end-to-end consulting and unlimited edits on your application documents. Not only that, you’d be mentored by a B-school alumnus who’d be helping you directly with your application process right from shortlisting the right schools and preparing an impactful application to assisting you with the interview prep and bagging scholarships!

While it's always difficult to assess a profile with just some biographicals facts, you do check many of the boxes. I would imagine INSEAD will give you a serious look.

It would be nice to know more about your career goals (especially since you're looking at INSEAD for a second MBA) and any (other) extracurricular activities or community leadership.

Lastly, the key for someone with good stats such as yours, is to ace your essays. Having a well-articulated narrative could be the difference between acceptance and denial.

Hi TheIndianMonkey,

First, I would like to congratulate you on backing a 750 in your GMAT, and I am most definite that it would provide an overall boost to your candidature. In addition, you do have the CFA charter, which is recognized worldwide by industry professionals as the “gold standard” of all financial analyst designations. Also, you have mentioned that you are an FRM Charterholder that requires one to work for about two years in a financial risk role. Hence, in a way, your work experience is also sorted by counting four years of relevant work experience in addition!

Now there are a few things that I would like to know about you like why do you think a second MBA is relevant for you and what ambitions do you have post your MBA. also, being a graduate from NIT and working as a software engineer, how & why did you transition into financing being a CFA & FRM Charterholder. Also, I would like you to describe the differences in roles, responsibilities, projects, and environment compared to your previous job. Since AdComs would be curious to know this, you must be prepared for it.

As you have mentioned some awards won by you, you can use them as an example to define your technical ability. Also, adding a relevant post-MBA goal and some volunteering work would definitely go down well with the admission committee.

INSEAD is one of the top B-School in the world, and since you are from a financial background, you have a good chance as the class profile of INSEAD has a high percentage (approx 34%) of candidates with consulting backgrounds. However, since you are from an over-represented pool, you require more than good scores and work experience; you need to work on your writing skills and make sure that your essays are unique & well written, try to align your profile with the school values and draft examples accordingly also since a lot depends on your interview process, I would advise you to prepare well for your interview.

If you wish to connect or need any further help regarding your essays or a profile, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to INSEAD. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Re: Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hi TheIndianMonkey here's what I would expect your application to address as an evaluator

1. Why 2nd MBA? You seem to have made the transition to your target field of finance quite early on and successfully. What is limiting you from growing further? What are your goals post MBA and how can INSEAD help you achieve them?

2. International motivation- You did not mention any international work experience or experience abroad through personal initiatives. INSEAD looks for strong international motivation in applicants to make sure they would feel comfortable in a truly international environment on campus and while scouting for jobs in new geographies. Prior experience in target geographies is highly preferred. You must demonstrate a decent level of research and understanding of moving to an entirely new geography for your target professional opportunity.

3. Community Impact- How are you different from several other Indian applicants with Finance background who apply to INSEAD every year? What are some of the social impact initiatives you have been concerned with and what did you do to contribute your part to the society? Diversity initiatives/ social impact are a huge thing at INSEAD and can certainly make or break your application.

Best wishes
